When Buzztime decided to do the Mobile Playmaker, I had two different reactions. I thought "Yeah - it will help alleviate the blue box problems" and "It is going to open the door up to cheating."

The later has now occurred and I have been asked by someone I consider a friend to post about it. Recently, during premium games of Nth degree and Ask It Already, someone decided to take advantage of the 20-30 second lag time and use their mobile phone to log into another site in the same town while playing at site A. This person has multiple log ins, which we know we need from time to time. However, using the lag to get yourself a Medal (in this case a Silver Medal on Ask it Already), is really lower than low. For now, this person will remain nameless, but it if continues, names will be added to this thread.

We know how we feel about borging. This is worse than borging. This is all out blatent cheating.

The only solution Buzztime really has is to limit the radius of the signal to less than a 1/4 so that real trivia players can play honestly with their system.

There is a guy in st louis that does that during Lunchtime. He even logs in to a site that is not open at the moment. This person does that with two iPhone/iPads/iPod/androids. Funny thing is there is no way to where he is playing at when he cheats.

BO may disagree, but it is borging.
It's using technology, or something other than just one's brain, to get access to information that the person in question does not possess.
Only this is the more efficient version of the two because it doesn't just give you a correct answer. It gives you something far more valuable; Buzztime's answer. Those two have been known to be mutually exclusive from time to time...
Other than that less than 1% BT error rate, I'd sure be impressed if someone could explain the difference to my satisfaction.
You're up, BO.

These are some pretty serious charges to accuse someone with out even talking to them first. First of all, I DID NOT CHEAT! Second I was splitting answers and got lucky. The locations were running almost identical. 1 second difference as far as I could tell at most. I did not have an unfair advatage, or know the answer to the question. If I was cheating why didn't I get a perfect? I hesitated too long on two questions reading the question and looking at the answers. I was splitting ok? When I play by myself I split answers. I used to do it more often until Eric went balistic and called it cheating. Then he started doing it. But when I play in a group I no longer split unless saying so when I do which is rare. But when I play by myself I think I have the right to play how I choose. Who would have thought that my first solo medal would cause such an uproar. My only regret is that I didn't get a gold. Then you all could have really flogged me good. I really disappointed in Eric for stabbing me in the back like this. I know it was him that set this whole thing in motion. Eric Judased me in the most cowardly way possible. He didn’t even try to do it subtly. He didn’t contact me or ask me anything about my silver medal. He didn’t congratulate me on it at all. He just assumed I cheated. Then spread the lie to the trivia playing community. I earned that silver fair and square. I did not cheat in Ask it Already or any other game. I played at Ashland Elks Lodge and used the mobile playmaker at RJ Kahuna’s yes that is fact. But they were running at the same time. There was no delay advantage. I was splitting answers on questions I did not know. I will have more to say after Showdown once I have talked with Eric and get an apology. If not, Eric just blew up his Tuesday night trivia team over a meaningless digital SILVER MEDAL that won't even exist in six months.

Why even play at two sites at once?

I really don't know why someone would do that.

Why even play at two sites at once?

I really don't know why someone would do that.

The point in the whole matter is that if you are playing more than one device at once (I.e., 2 blue boxes, a blue box and your phone),you should be seated physically in the facility. You played in two bars at the same time 18 minutes apart from each other and people know there is a lag. I have seen the lag first hand. You could have continued playing on how you were, but then you changed what bar you were logged into without making it via drive time. Anyone who understands the last ten games played can see that.

I was accused once of trying to multi-site. I left bar a at the beginning of a 30 minute game, drove 18 minutes to bar b and got 2 questions in. That is not multi-siting.

Buzztime needs to turn down the site finder so that one has to be within 1/4 mile of site.

Well, let's talk about this post of yours from last year about a Showdown game.

Quote:
Well at my location, Buffalo Wild Wings in Ironton, Ohio. on the 4th pyramid question the trivia boxes stopped working. The antenna icon was flashing in the conner. We had 1 ipad, 2 iphones and 3 ipod touches. The problem was we picked the wrong answer on the final question and those six lost points and the other names didn't. Had we not used those six names and lost the points our average would have been higher than our 23,220 and 74th place finish.

Now what many of us are curious about is why a team would be running 6 mobile PM's? Especially at a BWW that has tons of boxes, it's not like you were out of the standard blue ones. We all know it's much more difficult to play on iPods because you actually have to look at the screen to push the correct answer unlike the blue PM's which have tactile response. Furthermore, why would only those 6 mobile PM's be the only ones that missed the final question.

And finally, it's exactly 6 mobile PM's. The precise number necessary to have a location score in Showdown. In a tournament. Why would anybody use a mobile PM during a most important game? It's an unnecessary risk that has zero upside.

There have been multiple occurrences of scores coming out of your area with mobile PM's. And your above statement is very odd in multiple ways, it's somewhat incriminating. So I pose this question to you, what's going on? It's out in the open now so we're all very curious.

Exactly what Eric said. I am not a cheater and I don't like cheaters of any type. I'm a supporter of all you have is your own personal knowledge or shared knowledge when playing. I can't stand borgers, because how is looking up an answer any different than playing at different location and getting the answer? I use a mobile playmaker and I paid out a lot of money for an iphone and I'm going to use it any way I like because it's my personal property and my life to live. If someone wants to cheat they can, but I don't see much point in cheating since winning dosen't mean anything except bragging rights and what is the point in bragging rights if you know your guilty. I have done some things in my life I'm not proud of and I admitted my mistakes yet I do still feel guilty sometimes for not owning up to them sooner. I feel no guilt for ever playing at a different location. I sleep just fine at night and will continue to do so. I didn't break any rules. What I did was perhaps break trivia etiquette and for that I am sorry to any one who was offended. You can take my word or not. I can't prove I didn't cheat.

Blah blah blah. You logged in to a different site than the one you were at. There's only one reason for that, to cheat the delay. No other reason. You were simultaneously playing two PM's at two different sites. Only one reason for that, to cheat the delay. Were you playing solo or as a part of a team? If you were playing solo, there's no reason to play more than one box. If you were playing team, then you weren't helping the team worth a damn with one of your PM's at another location.

So no matter how you look at it, you were cheating. It's that simple. And all anybody has to do is look at the game in question and your game history to see it plain as day.

What is it about people in your area logging into different locations than the one you're physically in? This is at least the 2nd player caught doing such. What makes you people think it's OK to do so?

And the reason you feel no guilt about logging into a different location is because you're ignorant beyond belief if you truly see nothing wrong with it. I just want to know where you came up with this brilliant idea.

Talking to you is like trying to move a brick wall with your mind. I didn't cheat. Eric knows I didn't cheat and my team knows I'm not a cheater. We actually talked about this tonight. We will not condone any kind of cheating ever in the future we won't be playing together. Especially using internet to look up answers.

You know how people know you cheated that AIA game? Because you're not good enough to even luckbox your way into a medal. Your scores suck and it's hilarious how many times you've logged into a different site for various reasons.

Which makes the fact you've gotten the final question correct in SD 15 straight games even more interesting.

There's only two people who using mobile PM's in premium games assuming blue PM's are available. 1, because they suck and are playing just for fun/P+ points/cards. 2, because they're cheating the lag between sites.

There has been some interest among a few of the sports trivia guys around the country concerning the much-improved STC scores coming out of your bar, ERIC.
They seem to have shot up about the same time a few of these other shenanigans began.
Coincidence?
Me? I don't really care. Our bar can still overcome that sort of thing.
But there are quite a few others that would be interested in finding out which player there became an overnight sports savant.
