What a bruiser of a game.
No bar cracked 20K? Were there reporting issues out there in Trivialand?
I hope so, otherwise that game was just flat out ridiculously difficult.
Of course, it doesn't help any when they ask god-awful questions like "Which athlete was known for big-wave riding?" and then proceed to put two surfers on the list.
Brilliant.
Apparently, Kelly Slater has never surfed any "big" waves. What are the odds?
Well, at least his girlfriend is smokin' hot... In your face, Laird Hamilton!

Next time I watch them surfing the waves on Wide World of Sports I'll be sure to bring my effin' tape measure...

The surfing question asked for the preeminent big wave rider in the world, the best without question. And the answer is most certainly Laird Hamilton, basically the father of the sport. He invented tow-in surfing to be able to catch the waves for one. Great article about big wave riding about a month ago in Sports Illustrated.

So I loved seeing Kelly Slater up there knowing 99% of the players would pick him because to the average sports fan he's much more well known. Yes, Slater is top notch, and I've seen him surf on the North Shore in person, but he is definitely not the best big wave rider. Big wave riding is something totally different from what you have ever seen on TV.

No worries mate, I got your back on curling and surfing questions! :D

All that said, congrats on your win tonight. The first two rounds just kicked my ass, even missed the first women's golf question.

I dont recall ever seeing a winning STC score under 22K. Very unusual. Seems that no matter how difficult the game is there are a few folks who come up with a 23 - 24 K score at the least.

I agree with BO on the surfing question. I also enjoyed seeing 2 surfer choices up there as I thought I might climb a few spots on that one. It was the New York Americans question following that one that I stumbled on! ALso whiffed on the Stan Jones and Gus Mancuso questions ( and even the Bruce Sutter one as I went with Lee Smith). Also will admit to lucky guesses on the Vanderbilt and Bob Gain questions!

I remembered one under 20K right before a Christmas, checked Don Denton's site, 51st week of 2007:

51 December 23, 2007 Lighthouse Tavern Waretown NJ 19,862

Well, it is easy to say "I would have got that" when you don't play the game, but as a SI subscriber and an individual who had been to the North Shore recently, I had read this September 13th article with interest, and would have gone with Laird:

I pre-called Laird Hamilton, my teammate said what about Kelly Slater. I responded, "Hamilton does the extreme drop-ins, while Slater does the tournament stuff."

I thought we were doing terrible last night, missed five straight at one point. Had all of them limited down to 2 answers, just chose wrong.

I don't remember ever seeing a final round that tough before. I got exactly 1 out of 12 questions right, a 500 pointer no less.

Wish I would have dragged myself out to play, I usually like the more challenging games. I think I'm getting too old to play on both Sunday & Monday nights.

They're still printing that rag? ;)
Sure, make the guy from Indiana have to know the surfing crap.
I see how it is...
It's like that time VISHNU beat me head to head by 37 points in a CD game with two boating questions. He's from Michigan you heartless BT programming bastards!

Nice to know that I'm an average sports fan... :(

Sweet! When is your plane due in Indy?

Danke. In the land of the blind, at least for that game, our one eye finally came through for us... :D
That is, assuming ESM Lakewood didn't just fail to report out.

Exactly. Just like CHODE is an average chick magnet and LEWSER is a people person.

Well, I'm just a Ron Hansen in your guyses' Brooks Robinson sports trivia world, but I'm with Spotes on this one..

Of course, like others, I was still shaking off missing multiple previous questions in final round - including the Phil Jackson .. :( Man, Bill Fitch wouldn't let me near his team - never mind Bill Carrigan... :)

I admit I chose Slater as well.

To answer spotes' curiosity, and we appreciate your asking, ESM's scores Sunday & Monday didn't report out, they're apparently still not connected as of last night. But neither of our sports game scores were winners, so congrats to you, and to The Rib House.

I suspected that something was afoot.
Well, I guess that makes Monday's suffering unanimous...

Hey, Ale.
How many points behind you guys are we on Denton's site after adjusting in your two missed weeks of reporting and adding your scores from both places?
