Well, as more or less promised elsewhere... Image

As some of you have seen, Pacific Beach Bar & Grill (PBB&G) is the highest ranked site in The (Just Plain Old) Site-Poor Backyard, San Diego County, CA (such as the ranking system is). It's also the site with the most Playmakers (thirty, though at least a couple or so are almost always in some state of disrepair).

PBB&G is on the major business street of the Pacific Beach district, Garnet Avenue, and is a couple of blocks walk from the Pacific Ocean. It was once the central site of what was a doable NTN pub crawl around a dozen years or so ago, but all those other sites have discontinued (FWIW, from west to east; the former Pizzeria Uno's Pacific Beach, now Miller's Field; Moondoggie's; Plum Crazy; Tavern At The Beach (also once known as The Daily Planet)). There's another NTN site further east on Garnet than Tavern At The Beach, RT's Longboard Grill, but based on my lone visit there, I sense that they won't have NTN Buzztime much longer.

PBB&G offers outstanding daily specials on both food and drink every day of the week. Their most popular day is Taco Tuesday, including discounted specials on all Mexican offerings.

Getting in and out of Pacific Beach can be a lil slow unless one uses Grand Avenue, two blocks south of Garnet. Grand is four lanes divided and usually flows well, whereas Garnet is only two lanes undivided and, as one would expect from a major business street, often flows way more than a lil slow.

Parking in the area is also more than a lil tricky. There's very limited parking in the PBB&G lot, but there have been times when, after logging off and heading back to the liljol vehicle, some inconsiderate dorkasses park illegally and block the exits of numerous others parked properly. Image There's a pay lot next to PBB&G ($5 for 8 hours) that seems to always have plenty of spaces in the early evenings, but I sense that it could be full later in the night. There's also a pay lot next to Bank Of America on the other side of Bayard Street, and another on the other side of Garnet. There are a number of unzoned and mostly diagonal parking spaces within a block or so of PBB&G, but as one would expect, they are almost always taken. All parking on Garnet is zoned and/or metered until 6:00 P.M.

Most of the NTN Buzztime play is on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday around the destination and premium games. There are also some QB1 players for MNF. As some of you have probably noticed, PBB&G tends to limp in more often than not during those times, but IMO the major objective is enjoying each others' company. We do welcome visiting players, though it would help more than a lil if advance notice (and, maybe even a follow up reminder) were provided.

Due to events of this past year (not the least of which were the unexpected passings of two of PBB&G's most frequent and dedicated players), the overall status of PBB&G has changed dramatically, and not for the better. The only days when visitors can expect a regular gathering of players are Tuesday and Wednesday. The adverse effects of the economy have affected PBB&G as much as any other business anywhere else. The drift that I and others are getting is that NTN BT may not last much longer there.

As strange as this will sound, the impending installation of a BWW in the Midway/Sports Arena area may not come soon enough. Despite some uneven experiences at BWW Chula Vista (the only one for now in The S-P BY), that "coming soon" BWW may end up as our home site in the not too distant future, if only because of the number of available Playmakers (tablets or otherwise). The "coming soon" BWW in Santee could end up being the regular Friday site for me and another group of players that formerly played at Gilly's and TGIFriday's Rancho San Diego, and if it does, that would likely mean the discontinuance at JT's Grill, which has been very supportive, though it appears the honeymoon with their regular customers before the installation ended a while ago.

I'm way more than a lil grateful that a number of other sites not far from my humble lil abode in Mission Valley continue to keep their subscriptions, though the amount of registered players' play I see is barely enough to support most of them. Also, the reinstallation of NTN BT at three of the four surviving Stuart Anderson's Black Angus stores has been a most welcome addition, especially with their firm policy of no MMA events.

Pacific Beach to Santee to Rancho San Diego are all long ass drives apart. May the CHP and locals all be at Winchells.

Thats too bad about PBB&G. I really enjoyed it the one time I stopped in there on a business trip to San Diego when I had time to play.

Well Liljol, I guess I really ought to make it out West one of these days. I still want to visit TGI - La Jolla, where my old bartender Dusty from TGI-Louisville said he served "O'Douls Joel" many a bottle before moving to Kentucky.

Well, SCAR, whilst TGIFriday's La Jolla has not had NTN BT for more than a lil while, it's still going.

However, as of this week, Pacific Beach Bar & Grill has discontinued. For at least this Tuesday my lil team will bang away at Kristy's MVP, not far from what's presently called the Valley View Casino Center Sports Arena.

Well, sorry to hear that. We just lost the Suburban Tap in Marietta, which had a Margueriata machine as one of Bigdog's favorite appointments.
