I guess the real surprise was that they didn't drop the game years ago. Hardly anyone ever played there. Still shows on BT's website, but the game really is gone.

Manager said that BT raised the price on 'em and that's why they pulled the plug.

Dunno what's up with my area... 1.1 million people in Contra Costa County, three BT locales. And none of them have many players. Two of them are BWW's, so I guess BT will stay at those places a long time... along with their overpriced drinks and lousy food... The third is Firehouse 37 in Danville, lots of beer taps, really good food, and almost no regular players, so look for that one to die next...

Meanwhile, live-hosted trivia leagues and events with their ridiculous music and picture rounds, far worse question research than BT on its worst day, bad sound systems and mumbling hosts, etc... draw big crowds.

Well, hell. Looks like already Horribly Site-Poor NoCal got even more horribly site-poor.

The prospects for the San Francisco Bay Area *ever* having enough sites to escape its Horribly Site-Poor status don't look very good. Much of the area is already saturated with both residential and commercial development, and there don't seem to be enough remaining available spaces for the BWW monster to set down its tentacles. :(

Only San Jose of the three largest cities has any BWWs; it would be a major surprise if either Oakland or San Francisco ever got even one. San Francisco does have one in nearby Daly City, but the closest to Oakland is in Union City, a difficult drive down what is still locally known as the Nimitz Freeway, I-880. There remains one independent site in Oakland, The White Horse, not all that far from The University Of California Image, a lil south of the Berkeley city limits. How long they will keep it remains to be seen, as they still have blue Playmakers.

I have seen many BT players migrate to live trivia events. We have a plethora of Team Trivia events all over the area on any given day. Most that I have talked to that migrated are in it for the Bar Cash. I play the live stuff from time to time, but 20 questions over 2 hours is not enough to keep my OCD under control.

To be fair about live-trivia events, there is ONE company that I like. I used to play Last Call trivia quite a bit when I lived in Oregon, including running over to an event with some of the Old Barn players immediately after Showdown. Good format, well-phrased, interesting and well-researched questions and good hosts, for the most part.

They have sites/leagues sprinkled around in several states... lastcallusa.com

Unfortunately, the local scene here in Calif. is almost completely dominated by Brainstormer, a game I don't like nearly as much.

After my Favorite non Buzztime locale dropped Tenacious Trivia, Pitchers Sports Pub and Pizzeria started their own live trivia game and it's a lot better than Tenacious and runned by a Pitchers employee.....First prize 16 inch pizza, 2nd 14 inch pizza, 3rd 12 inch pizza

I'm with you. A question every five or 10 minutes is just a snoozer. And people cheat anyway.
