This bar under one name or another has had trivia for 30 years. The hotel that houses it went bankrupt and removed trivia for almost a year. A new owner purchased the entire business for cheap (the hotel was badly run down). He spent a great deal of money fixing and upgrading the hotel and lounge. He brought back trivia. He built a cabana bar for summers on the pool deck adjacent the bar. Then last year covid closed all bars for 3 months. It was allowed to reopen in June at under half its original occupancy. Most of the hotel's rooms were leased by the province of BC to house over 100 homeless people. Then last summer a guest in one of the few remaining hotel rooms, not one of the homeless, lit his room on fire damaging 6 rooms in one wing. The bar was only closed for a few days while the smoke smell cleared, the damaged rooms were rebuilt, and more homeless were moved back in. Then the 3rd wave hit and the bar was closed again although the deck remained open. The closure has been extended several times and I guess the owner had had enough and finally sold the hotel to the province, who I guarantee is not going to re-open the bar. Thanks Jerry for keeping this alive as long as you did. Given they paid you far more than you paid into it, congratulations and enjoy your retirement. At 88 you've earned it. |
