City Centre is no more. Waiting to see if what arises from its ashes includes Buzztime. In the mean time will be going the extra mile to the Ross Bay Pub, now the only BT location left on Vancouver Island.

British Columbia as a whole took a pretty good hit in January. Down from 39 sites to 33 in a single month.

Sorry to hear the news; We'll miss seeing City Centre up there in Showdown. And Victoria seemed like such a civilized city. ...

Are you saying that they only removed BT or did the bar close completely? Either way, I'll miss it.

The bar owners only leased the premises from the hotel. They only owned the booze and food, not even the tables and chairs. The hotel chain went into bankruptcy and the new buter for that hotel would only buy it if he could operate the lounge (City Centre) and the bar at the other end of the building. The lounge and the bar each had a lease but since they hadn't spent $300 to register their leases against the land title (apparently you can do that) the courts have classified them as unsecured creditors and the secured creditors interests come first. Two days after the court decision the hotel sold and the lease holders got their walking papers and will likely end up gettinng 10 cents on the dollar for the value of their leases.

The new owner has successfully run other bars and lounges in the city for years and at one time had BT in one of his lounge's but the loss of popularity of QB1 caused him to drop it. His accountant was one of the City Centre's regulars and she has said he wants to keep the staff and BT and the place will likely reopen after a brief remodeling. Those lavendar chairs the previous hotel owner had bought from a rest home have to go. I wait in hope. Meanwhile it is 20 min to the Ross Bay by bicycle instead of 10 min from my home and 45 min instead of 30 min from my work.

Oh well, Ross Bay has daily beer specials on good beer (City Centre never did that) and so my bar tab is 2/3 what it was last week.

Too bad about the loss of your location. Hope it is only temporary. In the meantime you have an alternate place to play.

We also lost our location in BC (Nelson). It happened way back in October, and I'm still going through withdrawals. I managed a few games in other places while on Christmas break, but I'll not play again until December.

I played in the City Centre back in 1991. If it is the same place I am thinking of, it was called the Douglas Hotel. I liked it.

Good luck, and be careful cycling to your new location, especially on the way back.

That bites. Hate to see a great place close. Especially one where you could have champagne brunch, sit back and play trivia at the same time. Good luck with new sites.

City Centre has been back for 2 weeks now as the Poolside. They only have 10 boards so I am still playing Shodown at the Ross Bay. Poolside is still 10 mins closer to both work and home so I am playing there some nights.

Best to play Showdown at a place with more than 10 boxes. You may never know who wants to play the only challenging game in Buzztime's fleet.
