Our team plays at KC"s Timeout Lounge on Tuesdays for Showdown et al. There is a display on the screen showing Tuesday Trivia League, B-Division and a ranking for us. Any clue to what the Buzzies are doing, and why??

I can tell you a few things. First, there are no prizes. Second, when the tournament is over, the results are hard if not impossible to find. We've seen this "tournament" on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Fortunately, there's no entry fee either. My advice is to ignore it.

Condor, you can find out about your bar's small tournament on the buzztime homepage for your bar. There will probably be about 10 other bars from all over the country in your league. It's just a thing BT is doing with non BWW bars. I have no idea who picks the bars.

Looking at KCs page it shows you in 2nd place 8k back to Zacks in Little Rock AR.
There was tonight and next Tues left in your tourney. Seems like KCs has been in a bunch of these already. Good job on winning some of them. Got to keep your eye on the bar homepage.

Xtrain is wrong, the final standings page no longer locks up the day the tourney ends.

Good luck.

They have this regularly in Chicago with a league of the non-BW bars. There is not much interest, even at Teasers, as the other bars in the group do not play Showdown and the best area Showdown competition is BW Bloomingdale (not in the tourney). After each round, Buzztime has been sending us a box of stuff (t-shirts, bottle openers, glasses and weirder stuff).

All I can say is, we have won at least two of these contests, and never received a thing.

I'll see if we have some extra shotgun style Buzztime beer cozies.

Your bar has probably been getting the box of swag and giving it to people who have no clue what buzztime is and on days you guys aren't there. This happened a few times back at Hardtimes, they didn't realize it was prizes for a tourney, thought it was just promo stuff, there is no letter in the box.

Good luck finding out where it went.

At Cameron's Half Moon Bay CA, we won a four-week 5-team Brainbuster league a couple weeks ago and were greeted last night by a box of swag.

The results of any league your locale happens to find itself in can be found by clicking your site name, then checking out the tabs on the lower half of the page.

This is almost enough to stir me from the apathy into which Buzztime has driven me back to disdain and anger. This sort of month-long league competition with a prize pack is exactly the sort of thing BT should be doing. BUT- for FSM's sake, why would they not take some care in picking who is in a "league?" It's not exactly difficult to figure out who the competitive teams are. We just won a "Battle of the Breweries" in May. Cute idea, but of the ten breweries involved, only five had ever played SIX as a team, and only one was anywhere near the top. Luckily, in that competition, RHINO (Dave) put together a good team at White Street in North Carolina and we were neck and neck with them the whole month, so that was fun. This month, however, we've been put into a "league" and we're pretty much the only ones playing.

I'm sure my team's not alone in enjoying winning, but it's pretty damned hollow when you're the only ones playing.

Also, how hard would it be to contact the bars to let them know they're involved, or at least gauge their interest?

For that matter, is it too much to ask for a frickin' letter in the prize pack so the receiving bar has a clue?

Rant over. Rolling back into apathy.

BT should at least check the stats and see if the site does have players playing the game.

Or perhaps the goal is to stimulate play at a site that has little to none.

That would be a great idea too, but will it happen?

Which is a superb idea. But they won't do so without actually reaching out to the bars, as well, to let them know. And if that's the goal, they shouldn't put inexperienced teams directly into competition against the big fish. That's what I mean. They dress it up as "League Play" with no apparent thought as to actual leagues.

I mean, shit, they could actually use their data and put all the bars into leagues for each premium game based on a combination of geography and average. Minor and major leagues in several geographic divisions; you finish in the top or bottom 10%, you move up or down. Then have a nation-wide all-stars league for the elite. Wouldn't even be all that much extra work; just another stats page.

My understanding (which could be wrong) is that the tourneys are "organized" by the district sales reps. Which is why BWW sites aren't included--they're sold to under a national contract.

And they don't care about players; they care about bar owners.
