Karen Ruhlig, who played SHOWDOWN as BETTE for the Kzoo Krew at Fletcher's, died yesterday evening in a car crash in Kalamazoo County. She was 54 years old. Karen joined the Fletcher's team a couple of years ago and immediately earned a spot as our go-to-girl for answers on theatre, literature, history, Broadway and many other topics. She was instrumental in Fletcher's winning the 2009 McCarthy Cup and 2009 Sandbag tournaments, as well as in the 2011 McCarthy Cup. Quiet and private, she recuited several Kzoo Krew players to join her in the new-to-the-area Team Trivia when a local MC, in a newspaper feature, compared Buzztime players to being little better than trained monkeys that were once shot into space. The following night, Karen anchored the "Space Monkeys" to its first of many wins in Team Trivia. She was to lead her team once again on Saturday in the Team Trivia Quarterly tournament. She is survived by two aunts in Florida and her teammates. She will be missed.
