It’s the final game of the season for the round-robin matches in the Sandbag Tournament. Will the little-team-that-could from the small market town of Albuturkey hold off the challenger and advance as a division winner into the single-bracket elimination round? Many other division favorites have fallen by the side of the road as teams formerly thought to be out of contention have caught and passed them. The fans are filling the seats in anticipation of a slugfest.

Worn-up Round

In this round, on Q7 suggestions of Newhart were shouted down and cursed by Lenny Bruce. The on Q10, no one heeded the warnings of Cassandra, who got lost in the shuffle. Coaches sluggers went 8 for 10 to jump into a quick lead.

Ground-down Round

Petit Pois is a dwarf variety of: PEAS.

Yowch. We barely managed to bat .500 on that round as the BUZZIES threw some wicked curveballs at us. There were 5-way whiffs on the first question and also the second. A string of three single followed on Q 3, 4, and 5. Then it was back to waving blindly at change-ups on # 6, 7 and 8. Two quick hits on Q 9 and 10 were followed by the BUZZIES turing a double play on us for Q 11 and 12. We need to get our offense on track to win tonight.

Scatological Round

6. HUMAN ANATOMY v geography

The Scat round was a flurry of scoring for the Crotches Crewe. We managed to avoid the old hidden ball trick on the gansta queries.

Frightening Round

1. Ronaldinho and Ronaldo are champion soccer stars from: BRAZIL 2. Ed Stelmach resigned from this post earlier this year: PREMIER of ALBERTA. 3. “Decline and Fall” is the title of this British author’s first published novel: EVELYN WAUGH. 4 The U.S. Justice Department filed suit to block its takeover of T-Mobile: AT & T. 5. Anasheeds are Islamic: DEVOTIONAL SONGS. 6. Hunts staged on commercial preserves are called __ hunts: CAPTIVE. 7. A flaneur is someone who enjoys: STROLLING A CITY.

We lead off this inning with a bunt single, but the runner was picked off at first on Q2. This was followed by two singles (Q 3 and 4.) The lead runner was gunned down by Q5, but this was rectified by a double on Qs 6 and 7. The runners scored.
The BUZZIES are looking to even the score by wiping us out on the Py-ram-it Round. We go up to the plate with confidence.

Py-ram-it Round

P1. Which tool is used to metaphorically designate the female branch of a family: DISTAFF

P2. Odd Nerdrum is a controversial Norwegian: PAINTER

P5. “Pelasgian” is a term used by the __ to refer to their forebearers: ANCIENT GREEKS

We left the bases loaded with runners stranded for that round. We managed to get a lead-off single. Then the BUZZIES worked a brilliant double play against us on Q 2 and 3. We drew a walk on Q4 using a 5-way bat. Fortunately we scored one run with a solid smack on Q5.

As we expected, the BUZZIES went to their bullpen ace for the Final Tragedy.

Final Tragedy on the Topic: NOBEL LAUREATES
Nikolay Semyonov, the first Soviet Winner of a Nobel Prize for science was a/an:
CHEMIST

Woo Hoooo, a grand slam for us!

The top six individual scores were 45803, 44871, 44619, 43809, 43567, and 43558. This rather tight grouping yielded a team average of 44,354 points, or just about what we’ve been averaging for the last three months. The place ranking, given recent experience could be anywhere in the range from fifth to fiftieth. After sweating out the collection and regurgitation phase of the scoring system, we were excited to see the Crotches Crewe rated FIFTEENTH for the night.

In the highly unofficial Sandbag Tourney, the little-team-that-could finished ahead of the Blue Goose, our head-to-head match for the night. This means we advance as division winners into the playoffs. In the Zone (Tampa) and SRO OT (Houston) finished 1,2, followed closely by Danny K’s, McGillacuddy’s and the Grand Slam. Congrats.

A few other cat-e-gory questions (condensed). -
2. Vitamins - Pyridoxine is one of the complex of (B6) vitamins.
4. Sports Fiction - This sports writer influenced Hemingway (Ring Lardner). Anon said in another thread that the answer was erroneously given as Ring Lardner, Jr., but I did not notice that.
6. Geography - The farthest east of the islands of the Caribbean is (Dominica).
Looking at the alternatives, I'm glad we made the choices we did!
