Ordinarily, a post like this would not be necessary for those who wish to follow such things on Don Denton's excellent stats site. However, this year one of the top teams split its time between two locations and thus missed out on some of the Denton rankings, which are by site alone. For the record, then (and to give The Ragged Rascals their due), here are the top five Showdown teams in the four main categories with the Albuquerque group's stats aggregated into single team scores:

WINS
1. The Fellowship (BWW-Kent, OH): 11
2. Danny K's (Orange, CA): 6
2. Houlihan's-Westbury, NY: 6
2. Teaser's (Chicago, IL): 6
5. Big Guy's (Winnipeg, MB): 3
5. Tailgate (Minneapolis, MN): 3

Average Rank
1. The Fellowship (BWW-Kent, OH): 8.20
2. The Ragged Rascals (Albuquerque, NM): 12.27
3. Tailgate (Minneapolis, MN): 14.10
4. Danny K's (Orange, CA): 15.14
5. Mad River, New York, NY: 16.30

Average Score
1. The Fellowship (BWW-Kent, OH): 51,138
2. The Ragged Rascals (Albuquerque, NM): 48,587
3. Tailgate (Minneapolis, MN): 47,524
4. Danny K's (Orange, CA): 47,264
(5. BWW-Middletown, OH: 46,518--computer-assisted)
5. Houlihan's-Westbury, NY: 45,941

Place Points
1. The Fellowship (BWW-Kent, OH): 4,547
2. The Ragged Rascals (Albuquerque, NM): 4,525
3. Tailgate (Minneapolis, MN): 4,432
4. Danny K's (Orange, CA): 4,380
5. Mad River, New York, NY: 4,235

First of all, congrats to Tailgate for cracking the top three for what I believe is the first time ever. As for the Ragged Rascals, they are no strangers to the top three, but I'd like to draw attention to the margin between them and The Fellowship in Place Points: a mere 22 points. As near as I can tell, it is the second-closest margin ever, behind only the legendary A&M Roadhouse/Grand Slam duel of 2005, in which the New York team took the Place Points title by a single point.

Thanks to everyone for a great 2017 in Showdown, and for more great competition in 2018!

May we conjecture that BWW-KENT was caught in the backwash of the storm that dumped four feet of snow on Erie, Pennsylvania?

Nah...we usually take off the day closest to Christmas, and sometimes the one closest to New Year's Day. We took July 4th off this year, too. We're just lazy that way, I guess.

I suppose someday, if we stop being so lazy and really apply ourselves, we might actually get to be pretty good. A man can dream, anyway...

Thanks for the stats.

Three regulars at Teasers showed up Tuesday, but GINNIE brought a delicious tart, so we were distracted.
