Showdown Recap for 6 Feb 2018 at BWW in ABQ

The team assembled at its temporary home in the Northeast Heights, the BWW on Montgomery Blvd. for this week’s brain drain. We were greeted by a former regular, Bart, who decided to sit in with us for this game. That upped our body count to 13 players, who would command 15 boxes for the fray.

12. What sort of fancy new gadget is the FLIR One Pro? CAMERA. {BLZBUB!}

{The team profited by listening to the lesser-heard mates on this round. But no one could save them on the first and second question, where the Buzzhead-provided third clue bailed them out. From the third question on to the twelfth the team was correct.}

Antoine Becquerel is one of 72 names engraved and painted in gold on the sides of the:

2. Eiffel Tower
3. Arc de Triomphe
4. Brandenburg Gate
5. Washington Monument

The order of the eliminations was 4, 3, 5, and 1, leaving #2, EIFFEL TOWER as the correct answer. MEERA made an early call for this answer as she had some personal knowledge of it from a visit to Paris.

The top individual scores for the night were 46702, 44826, 44779, 44467, 44446, and 42786.

The team’s average score for this game was 44,667 points.

The Ragged Rascals’ systemwide ranking was FIFTH Place.

The top score went to a Borg unit in Ohio. The real winner of tonight’s game was DANNY K’S of Orange, CA with 49,235 points. The Stained Glass Pub of Elkridge, MD was second with 48,478 points. Well, hell. :( The recall of tablets from BWW Sports Arena forced this lil old grump to use his still unupdated lil iPhone and Mobile Playmaker App to bang away this Tuesday. Since the lil iPhone is usually used to take screenshots of the tablet during the Scattergories Round, what alternate questions there are, are whatever memories remain in my increasingly decrepit, fragile lil mind. :cry:

S4 - MUSIC CLASS - something about the placement on the staff of the rarely seen ALTO CLEF

S5 - CELEBRITY CHEFS - Who created the turducken? PAUL PRUDHOMME, with Emeril Legasse as the only viable alternative, which this lil old grump bit on hook, line and sinker. :cry:

I started playing with the DFW team in early 1993 and shortly thereafter vividly remember a teammate precalling this answer while I sat there with my mouth open. In the past 25 years have probably seen it come up in Showdown 4-5 times.

That explains a lot. It seemed familiar to me for some reason as we all gravitated to that answer. Now I know why--thanks!
