3. Lewis Carroll [I (REACH, LESTER) pre-called this one; see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jabberwocky ]

4. Istanbul [I pre-called this one; see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Orient_Express ]

5. Chief Justice [I pre-called this one; see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Warren_E._Burger . I supplied a Supplemental Trivia Question: Who was Hamilton Burger?_____________ (Answer in a Comment following this post).]

6. Kamloops [see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kamloops ]

7. Diana [I pre-called this one; see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Artemis ]

8. Africa [see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Horn_of_Africa ]

9. Fish taco [We split our guesses; I guessed right as REACH. See https://www.allrecipes.com/recipe/53729/fish-tacos/ ]

10. Precious metals [I pre-called "Gold" and then "Precious metals"; see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Troy_weight ]

11. Peach [I wrongly pre-called "Plum" which was one of the Choices (Plums belong to the Genus "Prunus", but not the species "persica" - see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Plum ); see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peach .]

12. H.G. Wells [I called this from the date, 1905; the other authors were dead (Poe) or came much later. See https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/A_Modern_Utopia , https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Samuel_R._Delany [sic (1942- ), https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Robert_A._Heinlein (1907-1988), https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ernst_Junger (1895-1998), and https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Edgar_Allan_Poe (1809-1849) ]

13. Hypoglossal [I called this one, from "gloss"="tongue" (as in "Pangloss" in Voltaire's "Candide", "gloss over", etc.); see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hypoglossal_nerve ]

14. Diamond [I pre-called this one; see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/James_Fisk_(financier) and https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Diamond_Jim_Brady ]

15. Twilight [I called this one; see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mesopelagic_zone ]

16. Ash Wednesday [Myfanwy called this one; see the section "Christian use of ashes" at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ash_Wednesday and https://minmaxsunt.wordpress.com/2012/0 ... -of-ashes/ . Afterwards, I recognized "cinerum" from Cinderella ("Cenerentola" in Italian, "Cendrillon" in French); see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cinderella . Supplementary Trivia Question 2: What was Cinderella's real name?__________________ (Answer in following Comment).]

17. Arizona [I split my guesses, getting it right as LESTER; see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arizona ]

18. Bush baby [I split my guesses, getting it right as REACH; see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Galago ]

19. David Copperfield [I messed up, calling "not David Copperfield", so went with "Pickwick Papers"; see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/David_Copperfield .]

20. American Airlines [I called this one by eliminating the others as too small or regional; see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/American_Airlines ]

21. Tree [I split my guesses, getting it right as LESTER; see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Quebracho_tree . I mentioned that it must be similar to ironwood, a scrawny, tough tree very hard to chop; see https://www.dailyherald.com/article/201 ... 170209549/ . This article does not explain why ironwood is so tough; presumably the slow-growing tree has low water content but high resin content binding the cellulose fibres together, making it a natural composite material similar to fibreglass or carbon-fibre reinforced epoxy resin.]

22. Newark Bay [Dave (YELDOR, TULADI) pre-called this one; see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Passaic_River ]

Round Winner: Chris as KAYZED (Chris also played as CEEZED).

23.(a) Argentina [see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Treaty_of ... e_Alliance ]

26.(a) Anzio [Dave pre-called this one; see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_Anzio ]

27.(a) Rent [Myfanwy and others (Patrick as MRRED?) called this from the date, 1996. See https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rent_(musical) .]

28.(a) Hectogon [I messed up, looking for "centagon" which was not one of the Choices; note that the Choice "Hectagon" was misspelled, and I misread it as "Heptagon", a 7-sided polygon. See https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hectogon . In retrospect, I should have recognized the prefix "hect-" from "hectare", a unit of area equal to 100 ares, where 1 are = 10 m x 10 m. So one hectare (a metric unit that Canadians see all the time in the news, but have no idea how large it is) is 100 m x 100 m, which is approx. 110 yards x 110 yards (i.e. a square with sides equal to one Canadian football field long, or one American football field + one 10 yard American endzone).
The conventional unit of area for farmland is the acre, where 640 acres = 1 square mile. Since 1 mile = 1760 yards, 640 acres = 1760 x 1760 square yards = 8(220) x 8(220) yards. Therefore 10 acres = 220 x 220 yards, so 1 acre = 22 x 220 yards = 1 furlong x 10 furlongs.]

29. Mortal Kombat [I think Chris (CEEZED, KAYZED) called this one, and the violence made sense of the Rating; see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mortal_Kombat and https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Controver ... tal_Kombat ]

30. Catholic [We guessed "Methodist", but I worried about "Catholic", since Kavanaugh went to a Catholic school (although people can change religions); see the section "Personal life" at the end of https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brett_Kavanaugh .]

31. Great Britain [see the section "British colony" at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fiji ]

32. 1989 [We mostly messed up, guessing 1994 or 1999, and suddenly feeling very old when we realized that "Ice Ice Baby" is from 29 years ago! Chris got it right as KAYZED, however. See https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ice_Ice_Baby and https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rog8ou-ZepE .]

33. Raconteur [Myfanwy pre-called this one; see https://www.dictionary.com/browse/raconteur ]

34. Peyton Manning [Dave called this one; see https://www.pro-football-reference.com/ ... career.htm ]

35. Hawaiian [Chris or Patrick may have called this first; see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ho'okipa ]

36. 248 years [I called "a long time", so most of us guessed this, although I split with "183 years" as LESTER; see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pluto ]

37. Troilus and Cressida [I pre-called this one; see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Troilus_and_Cressida ]

38. Culicidae [I failed to recognize the family name for the mosquito (Genus Culex, Order Diptera); see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mosquito and https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Culex ]

39. Leningrad [I pre-called this one, although it was the only Russian Choice, making it a gimme. See https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Symphony_ ... ostakovich) . If you have never heard it, listen to the last part of the first movement, from 6:00 to 26:10 at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DQJcFMHLXek ]

40. Cyprus [I guessed right as REACH; see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cyprus (9,251 sq km, or 3,572 sq mi) compared to https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Puerto_Rico (9,104 sq km, or 3,515 sq mi). Compare with https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oahu (1,545 sq km, or 596.7 sq mi) , https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grand_Bahama (1,373 sq km, or 530 sq mi) , https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Taiwan (36,197 sq km, or 13,976 sq mi) , https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Melville_ ... nd_Nunavut) at (42,149 sq km, or 16,274 sq mi) and https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Melville_ ... (Australia) at (5,786 sq km, or 2,234 sq mi).]

41. Switzerland [Dave called this one; see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Switzerla ... eral_state ]

The answer for Q28(a) should have read "0.1 furlong x 1 furlong" instead of "1 furlong x 10 furlongs" for 1 acre. 1 furlong = 0ne-eighth of a mile = 1 furrow long.
