As mentioned earlier in another thread, BWW-Kent will be dropping trivia in 2019, and has stopped replacing non-functioning boxes. For these reasons, the team has officially voted to move to The Red Fox Grille in Cuyahoga Falls starting on January 8, 2019.

We have mixed feelings about this. We picked up some great team members since we've been there, it is the location at which we have spent the second-longest tenure (old-timers may remember when we started out at Damon's-Stow), and it was home to some of our greatest successes. It is also the first location that we did not kill, so kudos to them on surviving us:

Location Tenure
1) Damon's-Stow--January 2004-October 2009 (except April-May 2004): 5 yrs., 8 mo.
2) BWW-Kent--February 2014-December 2018: 4 yrs., 11 mo.
3) Stringz and Wingz--July 2011-December 2013: 2 yrs., 6 mo.
4) Damon's-Twinsburg--October 2009-March 2011 (except Feb. 2011): 1 yr., 5 mo.
5) Bennigan's-Cuyahoga Falls--April-May 2004: 2 mo.
6) Damon's-Independence--February 2011: 1 mo.

Wins by Location
1) BWW-Kent: 54
2) Stringz and Wingz: 38
3) Damon's-Stow: 21
4) Damon's-Twinsburg: 12
5) Damon's-Independence: 1

Player-run Trophy Tournament Titles (Sandbag/McCarthy/Brainbuster) by Location
1) BWW-Kent: 3 Sandbag, 1 McCarthy, 3 Brainbuster
2) Stringz and Wingz: 2 Sandbag, 1 McCarthy, 1 Brainbuster
3) Damon's-Twinsburg: 1 Sandbag, 1 McCarthy
4) Damon's-Stow: 1 Sandbag, 1 McCarthy

On the other hand, we had some struggles with the management there (especially early on), and it was a bit of drive for a lot of us. In contrast, The Red Fox is a lot closer (a ten-minute drive for me), and the management there actively sought us out and got the system installed there in anticipation of our move. I think it will be a good arrangement. If by some accident you find yourself in Northeast Ohio on a Tuesday evening, please come join us!

You say the management of your new bar actually sought you out?? Mad River has done everything possible to drive us away. On Tuesday they have a live bar trivia guy come in, even though all his questions are pop culture, and one other team always wins. It's chilling how much they know about cartoons, rap music, and television shows that we've never heard of.
I was inspired to write this only because on Wednesday of this week, some of us came to play Six and found the place crowded with people. This wasn't too unusual, because the bar encourages birthday parties and end-of-year office parties, etc. They've even booked a guy who set up easels on every table and conducted art lessons. Anyway the crowd that had gathered this Wednesday seemed particularly odd. There was something off about them. The weren't under-30s, like most of the other customers usually are. And they were unusual. We learned why (remember, we're in the heart of Manhattan, one of the most liberal places in the US) when they unfurled a large banner that proclaimed TRUMP 2020! There were only six of us and we were surrounded by loony Trumpies. Even so, we managed a second place in Six and the history game, and actually won the vocab game. But we had to avoid eye contact. I always wonder how well we would do if we had a real bar to play in.
Incidentally, the fact that a BWW is dropping the game is another ominous sign that the company (Buzztime, that is) is on its last, this time the very last, legs.

We would have beaten Teasers in those games if only those pesky people with different politics had not been in the bar!

We did beat Teaser's in the Vocab game, where they finished sixth.

Were these "non-functioning boxes" Tablets or Playmakers?

Let us imagine that the newest and most naive Buzztime site didn't, taking ANON out of school, "Get the system installed in anticipation...". but rather took notice of the math.

Let's say you have 20 players dropping in every Tuesday, four times a month. and their average tab is a humble $10. That's $800. The margin on food and beverages these days must hold at or be below 35%. So The Fellowship alone provides half the money on the $1000/mo Buzztime rental which the Red Fox Grille is presumably paying.

But that's only half.

It's incumbent upon the Fellowship that it encourage players to show up in the afternoon, or late at night, or to play Six, or Countdown, or Spotlight.

What's missing from this list is the congeniality of the casual game. Sometimes it's just about inclusion.

Montessori trivia.
The only saving grace for dullards like moi.

The Fellowship should miss questions on purpose for 'inclusion'.

Oh MERKIN! Must you be so fantastic?

The true test of friendship, as Lawrence of Arabia once observed, is whether we can spend an hour together in companionable silence.

To ask that of the Fellowship is beyond the conceivable.

Posit the Fellowship wearing out yet another site, and a variety of other sites, and eventually landing in a Carthusian Monastery with a Buzztime feed. Damnation would consist of the whispered conjecture.

That the Mad River team continues to be one of the best around despite its trivia-hostile location has long filled me with awe and admiration. As perturbed as The Fellowship has been with the BWW-Kent management from time to time, especially in the early part of our tenure, we have never had to face the kinds of conditions Mad River puts up with on a regular basis.

Tablets.

We have been trying to do just that. A number of us came out for the money game every Saturday, and I will encourage people to do the same on Sundays in January.

You should play with us sometime, GONE D. I think you will find that every Tuesday night is quite congenial (sometimes to the point of distraction--we traditionally make a "Battle Stations!" cry before each round to make sure we don't miss the first question); and we always invite everybody at the location who is interested to come and play with us. In fact, I believe that our long history of inclusiveness is one of the things that has made us a strong team.
