Well, at least there are people still passionate about BT.

Tourneys are tough with the platform.

While we aren't still alive in the tournament, just thought I'd report what occurred at our site tonight. Monitor froze on the splash screen before SD, but we were able to answer questions even though we could not see them. Rebooted and then the game was fine although we missed the entire first round.

For everybody's sake, I hope this was an isolated occurrence.

Nope.

Same old same old at Mad River. Game froze, we rebooted, we lost the first three to four questions. Assuming we knew all the questions we missed, cost us about 2,500 points. We appear to have won our match, but of course we don't know what happened at Stained Glass.

Game worked at Teasers and appear to have eked out a win over Big Guys by 134 points. If the week stands, that would appear to get us our usual friends in NE Ohio next week.

No glitches at Houlihan's Westbury. Back to normal (that is, if BT working properly can be considered "normal").

I looked through the number of answers submitted for players at 15 of the 16 bars. (no Tailgate) There were 2 bars that did not get the full 41 questions.

West Park had 34 questions and lost to Danny Ks 51177 to 38568.

Mad River had 37 questions and still beat Stained Glass Elkridge 47727 to 42930.

So West Park is the only one to debate. I don't think they could have made up the difference. Results should stand.

Looks like we had fewer systems issues last night. Mad River reported some, but won anyway. West Park Station may have had issues (based on BUD's post), but could not have made up the difference in scores (looks like a max of 5250, assuming the seven questions missed were in the warm-up round). Buster's score was lower than is their norm, but REACH's roundup in the other thread (and BUD's research) suggests that they saw the whole game, meaning those scores are probably final-showdown-related, rather than systems. Looks like Tailgate may have been out again. So, unless there are late returns from downstate, we are counting last night's results and moving along with the tournament.

A mostly chalk night, with the couple "upsets" being pulled by teams whose seeding was probably adversely affected in the first place by earlier systems issues (and one of those was by the slimmest of margins).

sorry just got home from work. as far as west park station is concerned, missing the first 7 questions in the warmup round meant nothing and we knew the risk going in. so bud is exactly right our results should stand without any question. good luck to danny ks the rest of the way.

Tonight at Mad River, we rebooted the system about 90 seconds after the conclusion of Brainbuster. We were able to get all our boxes back in time for the start of Showdown without missing any questions. Congratulations to all the winners tonight and we hope this may help some other location that has been running into the same problem in the future.

So, it appears that last night everyone's system was working (or they were able to overcome the problems to get a full game of Showdown). I did finally see the problem for myself last night, as the monitors at Crystal City did freeze up for Showdown (we use the tablets, so it didn't affect our game play).

A generally strong night for our remaining teams, as McCarthy Cup quarterfinalists occupied four of the top five places. Another chalky night as well, with all four of the higher-seeded teams advancing.

The single-elimination phase of the 2019 McCarthy Cup remains a very chalky affair, with the top two seeds advancing to the finals. Aside from our winners from Ohio, the scores were a bit lower than we've seen in recent weeks from the McCarthy leaders. Can't speak for the other teams, but our score was adversely affected by having our first guess at what color magnesium burns be wrong, but then saved by having our incorrect answer being the first to be wiped out. The scores:

This will be the fifth time we have been paired against the peripatetic Ohioans in the finals of a major tournament; they prevailed in the 2007/08 Sandbag and 2010 McCarthy, whereas we won in the 2014 and 2018 McCarthy. Although in the interest of full disclosure, they are up on us three-zip in semifinals and quarterfinals.

We always look forward to playing against the Fellowship, and wish them best of skill next week.

I'm playing solo in the Bangor (ME) BW3 tonight, but having played with both finalists, all I can say is may the better team win!

The Fellowship tips its hat to the all-time McCarthy Cup Champions. You were clearly the better team tonight. Congrats!

Thanks, Anon. We were very pleased, and somewhat surprised, that our score held up and we were able to repeat as McCarthy Cup champs and retain the world's ugliest trophy for another year. We knew it was a difficult game, but we weren't at all confident that the Fellowship would not surpass our 54K (especially after they put up that ridiculous score in BrainBuster) until we saw ourselves listed as #1.
