We did not get rankings for Showdown. However, we did get rankings for Brainbuster, in which we finished first, with a perfecto of 15,000, exactly one point higher than the second place team, whose name I will charitably omit here.

Yes, we saw that, too. :-)

Actually, for the record, it was “exactly” 1/5 of a point—four of us had 15k, one one had 14,999. Congrats!

OK, so now it looks like the individual scores have been posted for the game (it looks like Spectators "won," with Mad River and Buster's duking it out for tops in the wetware division), but for some reason when I click on the site scores it tells me "No Results Found." Is there a contact at Buzztime who handles such things?

We thought it might have been only a Teasers phenomenon at first, with an (overrated) ice storm in Chicago. We ended up 4th, 5th and 2nd in the three premium games it seems (with three players). Pass the steak knives.

To ANON and others: Spectator Sports, Albuquerque NM had the top 6 Player scores, for a Site average of 61,723 Points. Does anyone know for sure that they are a Borg bar that uses electronic devices to Google search for Answers? If so, is that one possible reason the Site scores were not published at https://www.buzztime.com (to deny them a recorded #1 Site ranking)? Have they ever participated in all-wetware tournaments, or have they been banned?

I would like to know because Buster's Bar, Ottawa ON could have been denied a #1 Site score of 55,854 Points, closely followed by #2 Mad River, New York NY with 54,565 Points.

61,723 Points out of 63,750 max. is still very impressive, and it is hard to see how Googling would help in the Questions that are limited to 4 or 5 seconds (e.g. in the Lightning Round). So I welcome INKY, NOTME, PJS, KISSS, AKDIVA, ZIPLOK, JOYSTK, ATLAS, YUCCCK & BEMEUP to defend Spectator Sports and their #1 Site score, if deserved.

The scores are up on the BT site now (I sent a friendly note to them yesterday, and it looks like they figured out whatever the problem was).

No, Spectators has never played in any all-wetware tournament. From people who know first-hand (e.g., BLZBUB), the folks there are unrepentant computer-users, and thus have always been ineligible for such contests.

While computers would be of limited help on the last few Lightning Round Questions, for computer-using teams this is more than made up for by the fact that most of the points are up for grabs over the last six questions, and there is no time penalty at all for the five pyramid questions on which most games turn. If you can run a clean pyramid round by looking up stuff at relative leisure, that would more than make up for maybe missing the last lightning round question.

I think my all-time favorite story of the long-time rivalry between BLZBUB's wetware Albuquerque team and its cross-town rival had to do with a regional, multi-week, cumulative-points tournament a number of years ago. The two teams were close going into the final week, with Spectator's holding a small lead. Some friends of BLZBUB's team went to Spectator's that night with their computers, and spent Showdown downloading huge files using the free wi-fi there, consuming nearly all of the available bandwidth. For some reason, that week Spectator's just happened to have a terrible final six questions, and BLZBUB's team pulled out the tournament win. :)

Totally false.

While the current borgs apparently can't type and/or enter proper search strings(judging by their typically laughable scores), I can assure you that those that can type good search strings somewhat quickly can easily have the answer to any clue in SD before the answers appear.

To Bo: Thanks, you're right about the Lightning Round Questions.

In order to type the exact wording of the Questions and the five Choices, I have used a camcorder to record the giant screen on which the ntn Trivia games are shown at Buster's Bar, Ottawa ON.
So I've just played back this week's SHOWDOWN Game on one of my laptop computers, while Googling on my desktop computer.

For Q34 (worth 1500 Points), as soon as the Question appeared, I Googled "janet van dyne", and a link to Wasp (comics) appeared on my desktop screen before the 5 Choices appeared. Granted, I had already seen and typed up this Q&A, but the extra 5 seconds to read and decide on the Choice to pick gives leeway for a Borg site to have the right answered called out.

Ditto for Q35 (worth 2000 Points). Although we knew the Answer anyway, I typed "dark side of the moon space probe" as soon as the Question appeared, and a link mentioning "China" appeared on my desktop screen. So the extra 4 seconds after the Choices appeared seem to be enough to call out the right answer to everyone at a Borg site. Unfair!!!

BTW we got all 5 Pyramid Round Questions + full Points on the Final Question, so the only Questions we lost significant Points on were Q12 (Governor John Carver), Q13 (Midwest City OK), Q14 (Under Western Eyes), Q15 (Angra Mainyu), Q24(a) (Tonic, atonic, clonic), Q29 (Jules Maigret), Q32 (Pretty Woman Bryan Adams), and Q34 (Wasp), almost all of which can be Googled within a few seconds for full Points. Borg Sites are unfair!!! Why don't they just surf porn sites to get off in the privacy of their own homes???
