While the conquering legions of The Fellowship are no doubt now readin Plato or Aristotle or one of that crowd, the six plucky Spartans of Teasers have decided to start drinking early in the confident hope that every question in the Pyramid Round will be about the movie Scarface and the final question will be about Dayton high school sports in the 70s.

A very sincere tip of the cap to the Spartans at Teaser's-mopylae, who came THIS CLOSE to fending off the Fellowship horde last night. I suspect the 224-point margin is among the smallest for any semifinal game in the history of the majors (Sandbag or McCarthy Cup). It is probably small consolation, but you have the respect of all of the Persians over here.

I see that the results of one of the semi-finals have already been discussed, but for the record, full semi-final results below:

Leaving us with a Fellowship/Danny K's final.

I would note that semi-finalists took four of the top six places last night, and that our two finalists have, between them, taken three of the last five and seven of the last 12 McCarthy Cups.

Best of luck to both teams next week, and congratulations Moose McGuire's and Teasers for fine runs.

Rumors of our size have been exaggerated, but it is true that The Fellowship did outnumber the six at Teaser’s by a little more than 3 to 1. Pound for pound, there is no finer team than our friends in Chicago, I think.

As appropriate, our finalists occupied two of the top three places last night. Congratulations to the Fellowship for the victory, and for returning the McCarthy Cup to Ohio.

This was a pretty dominant run for the Fellowship; they are very deserving winners. Congratulations also to Danny K's for a strong second place performance, and thanks to all of the teams that participated.

ANON, if you or one of your crew can get me an address, I will send the Cup out to you over the weekend.

Thanks so much, TIMUR--not only for your kind words, but also for running the tournament pro bono even though your team was not able to play. We genuinely appreciate you giving your time to it. I will PM you the address.

While I'm at it, I would also like to congratulate and thank the folks at Danny K's for their own strong run, as well as all of the other teams that participated. It is good to get back in the swing of regular tournaments, and I appreciate the small but strong field that signed up this time. I sincerely hope to see y'all again in the Sandbag Tournament this fall, and I hope a number of other teams, too!

Last but not least, even though few of my teammates come to these boards I would like to officially commend and thank the members of our Chaocracy for turning out so well these last few weeks. It is an honor and privilege to play with them. If by some terrible twist of fate you find yourself in the Akron area on a Tuesday night, please consider this an open invitation to find this out for yourself by playing with us. Let me know in advance if you do, and we will roll out the red carpet for you (full disclosure: there is no carpet at Red Fox. The floors do get mopped regularly, though).

We had a good run @ Danny K's early, but faltered on 2 questions in the latter rounds. I knew that was just enough to not pull off the upset. Anyway, congratulations on the win. We enjoyed it just the same.

Nice work to Danny Ks in taking 2nd. To those that say excellent BT play in southern CA is over needn't look any further than this tourney to see that's not true....yet.

We hope all of the Showdown teams and esp. Danny Ks can find a little time to play in the upcoming Thur SIX tourney starting Sept 15th.

Glad the McCarthy Cup is alive and moving around again. Thank you Rick for running the tourney and hope to see a DC or N.VA team again in the future? It doesn't seem too likely.
