We have no one to blame but ourselves for stumbling through the later rounds, but at least one question was not completely accurate. Arianism did NOT hold that Christ was not divine, but rather that he was a divine being created by--but of lesser importance than--God. ELROND, whose father taught divinity at Emory, was quite put out at the misleading nature of the question.

Well, you can't blame it on not being able to split answers.

If anything, it proves pretty conclusively that we are usually hopeless at answer-splitting. We had plenty enough people there to make a good split, but it didn't happen. This is the price we pay for being a benevolent chaocracy :)

Splitting answers is the coward's way.
Little known fact: it also causes gingivitis. Who knew?

Shit. So now I've got this to look forward to.

FWIW, our religion expert precalled Arianism with no quibbles.

And it was obviously the one they were looking for, and the least bad answer up there, which is why our religion expert eventually defaulted to it. That doesn't mean it is factually correct. I have already put in a correction suggestion to Buzztime.

Whatever chump, you just keep tenderizing that dead equine.

FWIW, while I didn't figured anybody cared except you, seeing as how the local borgs failed miserably this month, we went back to wetware a week early. I had to laugh when we finished better this week than last.

I mentioned to a few of the players from Twinsburg & West Park that the borg didn't fare too well this week, with the notable exception of that little bar in The Rock, PKA the City of Roses.

Wonder which question(s) tripped 'em up?

I think it would be hard to borg the question BO brought up--which was which of these heresies denied the divinity of Christ. Seems to me you would have to look up all five answers, but then I'm not an expert at how to borg. Ask you know who.

I would think that most any high-level SD player could tell which questions were difficult to borg seeing as how we've had the discussion many times on NTN/BT writing less borgable questions. It's not rocket science, many of us could write an entire game of SD containing zero borgable questions.

FWIW, and I've mentioned this before, around 2002 a BT question writer emailed me wondering just what we meant by making questions less borgable. I told him everything I knew in detail and cited several examples of what and what not to do.

When you type "heresy Divinity of Christ" into Google, Arianism is the third reply, at least on my computer. The secret of good borging is knowing how to enter the search criteria.

It is late, I am old, and have had a few beers. Bo can you give me one, because I can't think of one?

An example of a question from last week's game:

Edward John Eyre was an early explorer of:
AUSTRALIA (1)

vs.

Pick the Australian explorer from the list:

See the difference? You word the question in such a way that one would have to google the answers instead of the question.

And then there are questions that are basically not googleable such as:

It is a form of chalcedony that can occur in almost any color:
ONYX (2)

Please note there are probably better examples of the above questions, but this was pretty quick and dirty.

I'd say the Arianism was the least rapidly googleable of the final six answers. One has slipped my mind (though I checked it out yesterday). For the others, e.g.,

"Mont St Michel Chartres"
"Queen Elizabeth Islands"
"2007 Pulitzer music"
"T.E. Shaw"

all come up with instant answers.

The degree of accuracy of the Arianism question is debatable, but it seemed clear to me which answer they were looking for. As far as I recall, the only serious contender was Pelagianism, but we knew that had more to do with original sin (i.e. the non-existence thereof) and free will.

It was the Ornette Coleman question that sunk us all, as well as the 1000 point lightning question, whatever that was.

Actually, recent research indicates that agnostics and atheists know more about religions than the average practitioner of the religion.
