Here are the leagues and pairings for the 2011 McCarthy Cup. We had 40 teams sign up this year, and probably would have had several more if the PM function still worked on the BT website. Still, it’s a really strong field and should make for some great matchups.

League placement relied on average score for this year according to Don Denton’s website. The top ten teams became the top seeds of ten leagues, and then a serpentine placement for the rest (#11 went in league 10, #12 went in league 9, #13 in 8, etc.).

The Round-Dead-Parrot phase commences on March 8, with each team playing every other one in its league according to the following schedule:

Week 1:
1 vs. 4
2 vs. 3

Week 2:
1 vs. 3
2 vs. 4

Week 3:
1 vs. 2
3 vs. 4

As stated earlier, all league winners get the top seeds in the bracketed phase according to descending cumulative score during the Round-Dead-Parrot phase. The six wild-card slots will be awarded to the six teams among the rest with the highest cumulative scores. Standard brackets (1 vs. 16, 2 vs. 15, etc.) will apply.

There is not much more to say, except that in response to certain queries I've received, the trophy will absolutely NOT be awarded according to the rules of the All-England Summarize Proust Competition. Shame on you for even thinking this.

What can I say but that's an impressive list of the usual suspects, with the addition of Applebee’s in Halifax, NS, perhaps the new home of FALCON of New Minas fame?
(Are they sure that they want to party with this crowd? I thought Applebee's was a family-oriented joint, but then NOBODY expects the Acadian Inquisition!)
I note with pleasure that the tournament begins on Fat Tuesday, thus qualifying for rounds of Hurricanes and pączki rather than the staid beer and pizza. Thank you ANON.

Yes, the falcon has landed at Applebee's following the closure of BP New Minas. We have no illusions about being able to beat this crowd, but will have fun trying, anyway. Our number of regulars has increased by 50% to three, so maybe we'll get lucky and win a game somewhere along the way. While I still have the chance, I should point out that Don Denton's site puts our total Showdown score for the year just ahead of Adam's Mill, Henry Hudson, Blue Goose, and BWW Evansville. Oops, sorry, bragging is supposed to be on another thread, isn't it?

We notice that the rules make no mention of what games will count toward the cup standings, so are assuming that it will be the Tuesday "Canada Eh" plus Showdown (+ Brainbuster?).
