I totally agree, it's getting worse.

I left before the game started (9:00 is late for me) and I'm glad I did.

I would have freaked out in disgust.

I think it's worse than that. I would act as a stunt double in a remake of I Spit on your Grave's bathtub scene before I would watch American Idol, but usually the names of the winners filter through to at least temporary notice because of saturation in mainstream news outlets, and I had heard of none of them at all - I believe at least some then were only contestants not even winners.
