Smartest Bar bracket simulation 2012

Once again for fun, I am running a simulation of the September Smartest Bar finals as a single elimination bracket.

I thought last year's simulation stayed interesting all the way through, with 3 of the final 4 continuing play into the extra weeks, and both finalists writing in to the thread.

This year's seeding formula is different. I researched both the May and July efforts of all 80 qualifiers, and obtained their average game score for each month by dividing the May total by 3 and the July total by 4. The better month of the two was then applied toward the seed. 67 of the 80 qualifiers posted better averages in May than in July.

There are seven rounds. Smartest Bar runs for only four Mondays in September, leaving three rounds and 8 quarterfinalists left over. The simulation will then move to regular Wednesday Six for the first three Wednesdays in October. In September, the Smartest Bar page statistics will be used. In October, the HOF page statistics will be used. There is a difference. As far as I can tell, the Smartest Bar page (as well as the real-time, end-of-game broadcast) continues to count unregistered guest accounts, while the HOF counts registered accounts only.

I guess my bar, Torrey Pines will be eliminated first. Our team doesn't play Wednesdays. No biggie it is just a simulation anyway.

You might as well eliminate Diamond Lils also. We do not play on Wednesday. We were pleased when The Smartest Bar competition was moved to Monday

That is true we could be eleminated early on. I just object to be in a competition where have no chance because of schedules.

The Smartest Bar moving to Mon. was %$%^# terrible. Did anyone compare player numbers for last year vs. this year?

Assuming we're not already eliminated in our bracket in SBC Six,
you have nothing to worry about from us in October, pengwn.
I'm not really champing at the bit to play Russian roulette by matching multiple "Brazil"s, trying to decide which of the two correct answers listed in my 6K category I should go with, or figuring out the difference between what some pimple-faced intern is asking and what he/she really means.

Well, we at the Blue Goose may have a better chance in the simulation than in the real thing. The Blue Goose is closed on Labor Day, and you were kind enough to give us a bye next week. It will have to be our drop score in the reall Smartest Bar, so we can't afford even one bad week.

Rick / Blue Goose, beware, bad news: Buzztime's official rules for the September finals state that there is no drop week, it is all 4 weeks best 4 of 4.

If Blue Goose supports your team's efforts, you might still have time to prevail on them to open the back door to let your team in to play. (?) Good luck.

I could have sworn that when someone raised the question before of a location being closed on Labor Day, BT responded somewhere on either their Blog (when someone was keeping it up) or on their FB page that it wouldn't be a problem because that would just be the team's drop score. I thought at the time that the response showed the lack of understanding BT has re: competitions (i.e., most teams don't want to go in with a handicap vis-a-vis teams who can play all weeks and will be able to drop their lowest score). But I thought it was true, and am surprised now to find out that all four weeks count.

Did anyone else here participate in that exchange with BT and remember exactly what was represented by them?

hey, witcheeta ks you guys are in the best spot to be a cinderella team in this tournament. the 12s v 5s are classic upset ranks. i am trying to recruit every brain i can find in northeastern ohio to play this monday. unfortunately for us the fellowship seems to have nothing but disdain for six.

good luck and good skill on monday. i was hoping for a weaker team in the round of sixteen, but you get who you get.

Creve Coeur is the true Cinderella there....I did play with em after I got home from Cincy. And there was about 15+ boxes playing there back in July so the wild card factor was in place there.

Hardtimes Germantown MD had a 60606. Good for 2nd place in the country, yes Bobby the whole country and Canukistan too. The repeat feed didn't do so well. :shock:
