Congratulations to the Concert Pub for a victory not altogether foregone. The ad hoc group at B-52 dropped enough questions over the past seven weeks to establish, to my own satisfaction at least, that we are not elite. Yet through some combination bribery, extortion, arson, racketeering and malice aforethought (but not by googling answers - what kind of cheap hoods do you take us for?), we snuck into the finals, where we were laid low by the distinction between camels and bison, our top five playmakers dropping an average of 4,500 points on that question. Justice will out in the end.
Congratulations should be extended to Heroes, Teasers and Sinclair's Cloverdale for exemplary breadth of knowledge, and for hauling down that swag which somehow is not transportable across the Canadian border. Does anyone else think it extraordinary that Buzztime can't extend prizes for skill, rather than luck, to its clients and end-users in the Commonwealth? Here in the states, we owe a never-to-be-forgotten debt of gratitude to Canada for helping to break Prohibition. What thanks from Buzztime?
All the more reason to applaud Whales for getting his hands dirty in hosting this enterprise. Apart from the bad graphics, Buzztime's scrimpy results page excluded the Canadian sites, obligating him to dig up, site by individual site, the results from all the prominent Canadian players, too numerous to count. Whales has proven once again that, while Buzztime sets the rules, it's the players who make it worthwhile.
Well played, Concert Pub! I confidently speak for all the members of Team Gopher, that it's better to have bragging rights on this forum than to receive yet another unfashionable t-shirt.
GOPHER (JohnL from the Brain Trust at Wild Bill's, formerly of DeMori's), DOTCOM (Karen) and JOE (Tom) from the Tuesday players at the Tailgate, OGEDEI (Craig) and TEMUJN (Mike) from the Golden Horde, KRISPY (Kris) for local texture, and yours truly, GONE D, streetsweeper pro tem in the village of Mouse Hollow
