West Park played incredibly well throughout...
And by way of proving that West Park's double victory (Buzztime's and WHALES's both) was no fluke, IDJT came back the following night and took top individual honors in Thursday Six with a fine 63.4. The second best individual score in that Six belonged to RALPH in Cedar Rapids IA, playing solo at a local brew pub, the Third Base. His 61.7 is a mighty good result for a solo player. Or maybe his wife was helping him. Still.

Due to one of our team knowing how to write a press release...
The Third Base Sports Bar and Brewery (in its current iteration) is located in a strip mall on the far north end of Cedar Rapids. Catwoman and I were there one Tuesday evening when a representative from some local media outlet came round to do a story on the Showdown team. I only dimly recall it, but that group was at one time among the best system-wide. There were six or seven players clustered at the rail. For Catwoman, sitting at the rail was taboo, so we were at a table ten or fifteen feet away - far enough not to benefit from the others' shared answers. We played respectably well, into the mid-40's, and finished last in the house by quite a wide margin. A couple of the players breached 60K, and the house finished 2nd as a site. All in all, not a bad night for a news story.
After Showdown, and the media's departure, came Speed. I was fortunate enough to run the quiz, the only player in the house to do so, which left SS, the self-appointed leader of the pack, gasping, "Who's MICE? Which one of you is MICE?" To which ZAPHOD replied, "He's sitting over there."
"Well! If he's not sitting with us," SS shrugged, "then he doesn't count."
Catwoman just about spat up her drink.
