Yes, Don Denton talked with one or more of the players there and they said include Lona's. So they are in per Don. Plenty of time to get everyone together and make a run.

Good Luck and recruit.

Thanks, knowing Don definitely narrows this field.

Thanks, SCAR!

I had a blast.

I’m so happy to have people to play with in Louisville.

Congratulations, West Park Station. That was one hell of a score!

Since Don Denton began tracking this statistic in 2009, the 65K site score put up by West Park Station is the 3rd highest site score in the last 9+ years. I share GYPSY's astonishment.

thanks for the kudos everyone. we had a full house and then some on thursday. the last person to show up got no playmaker, but stayed and contributed a couple answers as did just about everyone at the table. when we have a good game that is usually the case.

there is still a lot left of the tournament and it looks like most everyone is still in it. good luck all this thursday.

Congrats to WPS. You folks made up a lot of ground with this game. A great job by your team, and I'm sure, more to come.

I want to thank everyone for allowing our Colorado team to get involved with this site. And thanks to GYPSY for introducing the site to us.

No, thank you, N B C!

Welcome NBC, glad to have someone from Fiddlesticks on here. We do see that bar and Guidos on the boards often enough. I believe your bar had visitors from Gaithersburg not too long ago.

Good luck in the last 3 weeks of the Six challenge.

My B-52 has two weeks to make up 1610 points on West Park Station. Ugh!

And what are the chances that Walsh's group is going to play five straight weeks without putting up a 63K or even a 64K of its own? Wagering against that possibility is no way to make a living.

I'm spending an hour this morning perusing the periodic table - we all could do some spadework - and pray that I'm not just digging my own grave.

While we're waiting for the College of Cardinals (consisting of IDJIT and BUD) to waft white smoke from the curia (MERKIN offering accurate conjecture from the well-informed global press), I have one or two observations.

First, that shortening the quiz, from Mudee's original month's long affair to a compact five weeks, makes it far more attractive to players who would not otherwise participate, and the proof of this is in the numbers. The Challenge originally hobbled along with only five teams, all very dedicated, but a two-month tournament runs afoul of all kinds of mischief, as ANON, moderator of the Showdown tournaments, can attest. You have family vacations, religious holidays, and reliably bad weather with which to contend. This year there were fifteen sites participating in the Mudee Challenge, which tripled the original number. This was my first participation, and I'm hoping that I drew enough interest to the enterprise that next year my neighborhood can field not just one, but two or even three competing groups.

Second, and here I'm guilty of repeating myself - I live under a rock - I don't listen to popular music, don't go to movies, and leave my TV unplugged. In a Six quiz, the people with whom you're least likely to engage are the also the ones from whom you're most likely to benefit. So be polite, and draw them out.

Thank you.

So to render it official Mad River did win the 2018 MUDEE Six Challenge. B-52 gave it a serious go with two wins including the last night. However, week after week Mad River just kept coming up with great scores. The trophy now will move on to a new home, the very deserving Mad River.

Thursday's scores are:

1 B-52 Burger and Brew 61,713
2 Mad River Bar and Grille 60,923
3 Buffalo Wild Wings Crystal City 58,677
4 Chicago Sams Cromwell 57,823
5 Boomerz 57,120
6 Caffe Cottage 57,019
7 Buffalo Wild Wings Gaithersburg 55,932
8 Walsh's Bar and Grill 55,883
9 Time Out West Sports Pub 55,313
10 The Fellowship 55,038
11 Buffalo Wild Wings Salisbury 54,987
12 West Park Station 51,172
13 Buffalo Wild Wings 42,777
14 Lona's City Limits Cantina 34,481
15 Fiddlesticks Bar and Grill 1,357

The final overall scores counting one dropped score are:

1 Mad River Bar and Grille 244,227
2 B-52 Burger and Brew 243,680
3 Time Out West Sports Pub 238,452
4 Walsh's Bar and Grill 238,052
5 West Park Station 236,472
6 Buffalo Wild Wings Gaithersburg 232,297
7 Chicago Sams Cromwell 231,979
8 Caffe Cottage 227,817
9 Boomerz 226,952
10 Buffalo Wild Wings Crystal City 220,518
11 Buffalo Wild Wings Salisbury 220,175
12 The Fellowship 201,651
13 Fiddlesticks Bar and Grill 171,708
14 Buffalo Wild Wings 163,665
15 Lona's City Limits Cantina 105,834

No surprise that the two most consistent teams were at the top.

This tournament was so close and so much fun. BUD and IDJT want to thank Don Denton for his work in making the scoring easier. We want to thank the winners, Mad River, for having such a great tournament. We have to acknowledge B-52 for also having a great tournament, they came so close. We especially want to thank each and every team for participating. Our objective is to have a tournament that honors MUDEE and this one was truly outstanding. Finally, we save special thanks to MUDEE for creating this thing in the first place.

With that the 2018 MUDEE Six Challenge is clos

They searched far and wide for top trivia players. The Twin Cities Metropolitan area has about 3.28 million population. Some of them are the finest trivia players in the buzztime system reside here. They congregated under the leadership of Dave (Gone D and other handles) and did their home state proud with a phenomenal performance in the tournament.Congratulations!!!

I'm tellin' ya, BUGG, if you had announced in advance that B-52 would average over 60K before the drop and that we would finish ahead of Walsh's and West Park Station, I would have liked our chances a lot. But MEGUMI and XTRAIN et al would have none of it. Well played!

What it boiled down to were the mega-scores that West Park and Mad River were able to obtain in Week 2. West Park wasn't able to hold serve, and B-52 couldn't launch a counter-strike against Mad River. MERKIN would know what I'm talking about. Last year Walsh's averaged over 62K (again, without factoring in the drop, which pushed that number to 62.7 (which may prove to be a durable record). This year Walsh's couldn't breach 61K in five tries. Team GYPSY (whose captain, at this writing, is playing pub trivia in London), finishing 3rd in this year's Challenge, would have had a winning average in any of the first three of these tournaments.

I enjoyed this more than any of the Buzztime-sponsored Six tournaments I've played. I think IDJIT and BUD have hit on a winning format, and I'll certainly be back for more punishment next year.

Thanks so much to all that played this best Mudee Six tourney. Idjit said it all well including Don's website stats. Thanks to those that went along with the spirit of the tourney and joined in most likely not really expecting to beat the top bars but played with heart anyway esp. Lonas. Thumbs up.

Congrats to B52 on making it close. They, I believe, were one of the bars just joining in and not expecting much due to vacations and lack of players. But Gone D recruited well and almost won it all. Real Nice job.

Then Mad River swooping in with a stronger Thur team than usual, proving they are more than just a top SD team. Very well done guys and enjoy the Mudee Six trophy. But please keep the trophy safe, don't leave it at the bar, send it home with different guys like the Stanley Cup. :D

Jim (idjit) and I thank you all for playing and will look forward to 20 teams next June.

Just to set the record straight...XTRAIN and DAR were absent for one of the five weeks, and our teammates didn't miss a step without us. We'll probably sit the next one out. Do you need an address to send the trophy to?

GYPSY informs me that she hasn't "played trivia in weeks."

While the iron is hot, I'll be PM'ing BUGG regarding a possible MUDEE site for some of the outlying players. BUGG lives a million miles away from most of the sites he plays, but he keeps sober, so BUGG's space capsule can handle the g-forces on entry, and escape velocity on the back end of a Mudee Challenge. A couple of BUGG's brethren may be ageing out, J A K and PYRITE especially. GABBY, a wonderful player, plays at Ol' Mexico, which is in his back yard, as B-52 is in mine. The logistics here, for a hypothetical 3rd group, could pose a challenge.

Forming a second group should pose no challenge at all. JOHNL, JOHNNY, BACHO, and HSNBRG, are accustomed to play as a group at Wild Bill's Woodbury, and routinely embarrass the nation. If they stay put, they would be very formidable.

And I can field a competetive team. I think. But after all, I have eleven months to talk it over.

Yes,I do beleive Bacho could assemble a great team at Wild Bill's and Ole Mexico led by Gabby could also. There were also a pretty good Tuesday team that played at Fern's that could be effective if they wanted this challenge. That being said it was fun to see a power team congregate at B52's and emerge less than a question short of the title and actually with all games counted have the most points.Great post Dave and of course continued succes both on and off the playing field.
