As a member of the Mad River Six team, I am now in temporary possession of the trophy for the MUDEE Memorial Six Challenge:

As you can see, if we and any future winner of this trophy wished to add our location to the trophy, we have a problem. All the readily available space has already been taken. We have not lacked for suggested solutions to the problem, but any solution we've come up with would likely be considered by some/most/all to be aesthetically displeasing. Besides, it's not just about us, any good solution should also address future winners. The only suggestion we had for that was to somehow associate a USB drive with the trophy.

We do not feel comfortable unilaterally deciding what to do here, especially since we did not originate the trophy or tournament. So we ask for your input, especially from those who knew MUDEE best.

It's going to need a base made for it to sit on, probably wood. Then we would go with the standard small brass plaques, 4 or 6 on a side depending on long or short side of the rectangle base.

I know a good trophy shop here in MD.

Can I get the exact measurements?

Anyone got a better idea? Ideally a red metal base would look better but who can make that come out looking good?

Thanks Stro, I'll look into a rectangle wood base to fit that. About 15 by 5 by 5 or so high to fit 2 rows of self adhesive plaques across the long 15" front side.

Did you all in NY think that is an ok solution, that has all winners visible and not difficult for future winners to add names?

Any other suggestions out there?

I'll ask them tonight, but I would also like to hear from others those associated with the origins of the trophy before committing.

Mudee was the only one associated with the trophy. There was no one else involved in it's making and the rest of his former team is unknown. Jim/IDJIT agrees on a wood base as a metal one isn't very feasible without a high cost. But if someone knows otherwise feel free to speak up.

Anyone else have any suggestions?

Bud,

Your wooden base solution sounds great!

I got a quote from 2 trophy shops for a wood base 15 x 5 x 5. Over $200. Too much.
This is a custom made size as most bases are square and the biggest ones are about 8 x 8.

We could look for a 12 x 12 x 5 or 6 high square base. The 14" Six trophy could sit across the diagonal. Does that sound ok, again if we can find that? And at what cost?

The next choice is having a carpenter or woodworker build us the custom size.
Any woodworkers out there? Michaels craft stores may have the right wood panels that would have to be cut, beveled on the edges, glued and stained.

Anybody decent at that stuff? I may attempt it if we have no other reasonable choice.

One additional factor to keep in mind are mini-plaques upon which future winners could put on their names; we'll need those, too.

I just got a ballpark estimate from someone doing it here that would be less than half the price cited by the trophy company. There's no rush in doing this, so we remain open to any other offers.

Like the diagonal idea.

As the past (and future, hee hee) keepers of the trophy, Walsh's would take up a collection for part of the cost.

A live trivia event where I won the trophy a couple times required the winner to pay for the winner's plaque, which did not strike me as absurd.

I would cut off my thumbs trying to woodwork.

It looks like we have a new base for the Mudee Six trophy in sight.

I found a manufacturer of trophies in Iowa and they can do a nice 15 x 5 x 5 wood base with 8 blank metal name plates for $120. That's very good compared to the local shops who were about double that.

The current champions Mad River in NY along with past champions West Park Station and Walsh's will split the cost along with myself, having actually never seen the thing in person.

We'll let past champion Houston off the hook as it seems they don't play down there anymore and Concert Pub dropped BT. Slackers.

I hope to order the base in the next few days, in 2 to 3 weeks or so it will show up in NY.

This will be the best looking trophy in the Buzztime world, putting to shame those Tuesday trinkets.
