Interestingly enough, Michael Jackson is also the topic of Trendalicious on May 16.

Journey has been a Headliner before. Surprisingly, Michael Jackson has not. Although he has been a Topix game before. (The Jackson 5 has been a Headliner).

Well, his Wikipedia article is certainly extensive enough to mine 26 questions. Guess someone figured if they made up two games' worth at once, they could take the afternoon off

Oh, yes he has been a headliner.....majority of the questions dealt with his videos and we sucked that game.

Cadi J is alive and well at Elsa's. Not sure about Houston or some others for Playback.

Thanks.....it's worth noting a few things, though.

NTN had another clearance sale on questions.....during the whole game.
That includes the "Joe" question during the headliner round. A few years back,
they had '90s R&B as a topic, and we did better than we thought we would
during that round but we missed the last question....and the answer was
some guy I'd only heard of...."Joe." Prior to the game, I only looked up
one artist just in case....."Joe." If you play this game long enough and pay
attention to how NTN builds these games, you may be able to "jump the receiver's
route" and score a "pick six" occasionally. That was a "pick six." If we miss
that question we might still have won but with a much lower score.

....and I still came in 11th in my own bar. Geez. At least there was no sign of a certain
British brunette to distract me, and I had no trouble finding my car.

Speaking of Joes, we welcomed Joe Sopsich, a longtime Fletcher's regular, back for a weekend visit.
Glad we did well this time.

Beyonce and Jay Z suck....other than that we swept the round and final.

Journey next week should be better.

Wow, that's the one you missed? I rated that one about the 5th or 6th most difficult question of the round.

I know a little about Joe. (Although I completely forgot all about "Stutter," his biggest hit, until reading his discography just now). But I figured if they were going to ask him they'd ask his more popular (top 20) Hot 100 hits. On this one, they asked his songs that barely dented the Hot 100 but were more popular on the R&B chart (which is fair, given the category).

The Ray Charles / Smokey Robinson one was a 50-50 toss-up. (And much how like the Penguins keep losing those OT toss-ups, we were also on the wrong side of them all round long  )

I guess Californina "Hits" can also mean "Bands from California".

You mean the Heartland question? They're from Alabama.

It was just bad coding on NTN's part. Q10 of the # round was supposed to be Q1 of the Headliner round & vice versa. It's a common NTN screwup that happens a half dozen to a dozen times per year in this game. Most often it seems to happen on the last question of the Triviaoke round & first question in the # round.

I played that last week and first 5 was about his newsest posthumous album then after question 7, it went back to familiar territory.

We won't play on Saturday night as we will be at a minor league ball game. I'd love to know how many repeat questions there were!

Well, I did not get a chance to play that Topix game, but the final question last night was a Countdown/Late Night repeat special. Which Michael Jackson song won a Grammy Award in 1983? We remembered this from the first time it was asked, thought it was a big, bad, really dumb question with 2 very real right answers......we got it right on our top 5 boxes and did well, but it still left a bad taste in our mouths. Can't imagine what teams who went with Billie Jean must have been thinking. And judging by the fact I'm the first person to comment on it, we must be (sadly) used to this crap by now.

Sigh.

Yep, the Stevie Wonder incident revisited

But this time it was a repeat question from the first Michael Jackson game.

That still doesn't excuse buzztime, though, for repeating the Stevie Wonder mistake *again*

Ok I still think the writer does it on purpose, the rest of the game was fine.. Seriously, how could anyone screw that up without trying too. That or you have someone that puts together the first 40 questions, and a 3rd grade monkey for the headliner...

Had they simply made the following change to said question, it becomes tricky but valid:

Which MJ song won the Grammy for Record of the Year at the 1983 Ceremony (Spring of 1984)?

Beat It would be the definitive answer. That kind of question can't have 2 right answers.

That was one hell of a showing by the west coast teams last night. So strong was the competition that our awe inspiring 15996 was good enough for 7th place.

A whopping 25k+ won for location score, one player cracked half the points available. The split is such a great thing for competition.
