Hey, look at that, it's only Wednesday night and this week's possible headliners are already up:
* Jazz Giants
* Surfing Songs
* Country Classics

Interesting choices. I can hear the cries of consternation from the F_BEAR gathering if Surfing Songs is selected. Image Image Image

Surfing songs sounds like the best one. We'll hope for that one. County Classics not too good and Jazz no chance at all.

Surfing songs seems rather narrow in scope to be a topic. What are they gonna do, nine Beach Boy questions and a token Jan & Dean quesiton?

BTW, "Wipeout" was the B-side of the single

Has PB ever contained 11 jazz questions? Has PB ever contained even 3 jazz questions?

That being said, I think they should go with it. After all, they tend to ignore stuff like jazz and classical when according to the game description it's allowed.

Jazz Giants...could this finally be the Zamphir question they tease us with? (Yes, I know calling Zamphir is a stretch, but...)

Sure, but usually only in weeks where Jazz was a category in the jukebox round of old Playback. Two questions there, plus one question in the Tune-Up round turned the trick.

I think they're going to with Jazz or Country Classics in the headliner sooner or later (and it's a 2 out of 3 chance this week). From the half hour Jukebox game, they have a database of questions from those two categories. They could even use all or most of those questions for 11 questions. They're bound to take at least a few of them from there.

Personally, I hate it when a premium game has repeat questions (every premium game should always have all new questions)....but there's always at least a few repeat Q's in any given Playback game each week.

There'd almost undoubtedly be a Jack Johnson question.

In addition, they'd probaby use a very loose definition for surfing songs.

Nuts. Including Jack Johnson in surf music for lil other reason than he's an actual surfer would most definitely be a very loose definition. Admittedly this opinion is based on hearing only one of his songs ("Upside Down"), which IMNSHO hardly qualifies as surf music. :roll:

Maybe, but for now I shudder to think what very loose definition of "Jazz Giants" NTN Buzztime can concoct. :(

I worry about more than Buzztime's definition of jazz...This year's Montreal Jazz Festival featured The Moody Blues :roll: and Lionel Richie :roll: :roll: as headliners

I got my DJ gig this week. So I am not playing it. I guess Rocket Robin prolly wants us to post the final question this week.

It was Country Classics. Brutal Headliner round for us and judging from the scores (19k made the Top 20), we weren't the only ones who thought so.

Sorry CLARK. Thought you guys would win since you guys at Cadis seem to be the strongest at country music between you, us and Fletchers. And your top board was very impressive! Quick post-game math revealed that was your only board that hit the final. Unfortunately, all three of us have blown a win before and most likely will again :( Nice going up to that point, anyway.

I have the recap, which I'll post later.

Brutal just begins to describe it. My wife guessed correctly on the last question and finished 33 (according to the chart after the game). If we got 3 questions correct in that Headliner round, it was a miracle.

Poman, Rocket Robin will appreciate that

I played 6 playmakers at End Zone.. Had no idea what the topic was.. When I saw "country classics" I felt sick to my stomach... Somehow I got 7 of the 10 and the final.. Sadly the 3 I missed were right in the middle of the round. I only knew 2 of the 7 I got... But like everyone else said... Last nights game was a bloodbath.. I never thought I'd get a 5th place finish on that game...

Both my JTLAKE and JETER boards got 5, but the JETER board got more of the bonus. From one Zone to another, good job on the 5th place finish :)

Something tells me that it will be a cold day in Carlsbad before Jazz Giants becomes the Headliner. :cry:

Thanks, that was my 2nd board, picked it out right before the game started...

Not sure, but I think once again they screwed up a question in the middle of the headliner. Spurs that Jingle jangle was a song done by both Gene Autry and Tex Ritter (and they were both choices). It will be interesting to see POMAN's recap of that question..

Based on an admittedly outdated 1996 Country Whitburn :shock:, if it was a hit for either, it had to have been before January 8, 1944. :roll:

God... second week in a row where we had a pretty damned good score going into the pyramid round (I think we'd only actually _missed_ 2 questions?), and just got demolished.

I knew 2 of the 10 pyramids, and had absolutely no idea on the final.

Judging by the final scores (20th place bar averaged 19k!), I'm assuming everyone else found this game as brutal as we did.

I actually thought I'd have a tiny chance on some classic country, but they pretty much avoided anyone I've ever heard.

And really, no Johnny Cash, no Chet Atkins, no Merle Haggard? And did we have more than 1 Hank Williams Sr. question?
