Among the many embarrassments suffered in last night's Brainbuster (7.17.18), the one I most regret was taking "Cave Paintings" as more typical of Chartres than "Druid Ceremonies."

Proust in his "recherches" comments on the flatness of the land around Chartres, and how the cathedral was visible from miles away.

There are a couple of worthwhile caves in southern Minnesota, in a rolling landscape not much different from that around Bowling Green KY.

As an aspiring troglodyte, I keep hoping to find one that no one else knows about and set up housekeeping. The ambient temperature of a cave at this latitude is about 45 F. I could ferment kimchi and kombucha in my living room...

How come the correct answer wasn't "Gothic cathedral?"

The Cathedral was in the drop-down box, if memory serves. But maybe I took too many shots to the head.

The question was something like, "For which of the following is Chartres *NOT* famous?"

The correct answer was - searching for the Outlier - "Prehistoric Cave Paintings." The landscape thereabouts wouldn't suggest a cave system. It may have been a while since Druids held ceremonies there as well, and "Druid Ceremonies" was the answer I chose. BZZZZT!

In our group, someone (we avoid attribution as it is a double edged sword) said 'That would be Lascaux' as soon as cave painting was recognized as a choice. While not definitive, it fit the Buzztime modus.

Lascaux, Peche Merle, Arcy-sur-Cure, Cosquer, Font de Gaume, and several dozen other French sites with cave paintings, but not Chartres - where the Druids conducted their ceremonies right out in the open, if I'd been paying attention.

While I admire your delicacy, SHAKES, in regard to double-edged swords, my exceptionally high threshold of embarrassment doesn't extend to quoting others (making exception for Wikipedia) without attribution.

But I can see that, within context, you have the up-side of that argument.

Context is everything.
From Buzztime distractors to where I freely pass gas.

You may be methane intensive, SHAKES, but for me you've always been a reliable energy source.
