Answers:

1. Guyana [We at Buster's Bar, Ottawa ON split our guesses between Suriname and Guyana, with Chris (CEEZED, KAYZED) getting 1000+1000 Points, and me (as REACH) getting 965 Points, although as LESTER I got only 168, similar to the other Players. See https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Surama , whose spelling perhaps sucked most of us to "Suriname"]

2. The Trashmen [I pre-called this one; see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Surfin'_Bird . For a video of this 1964 precursor to Punk Rock, see https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9Gc4QTqslN4 ]

3. Sweet orange [Most of us guessed wrong, perhaps by not reading all 5 Choices. Sweet orange, because of the ready and voluminous availability of orange peels, should have been obvious. See the section "Production quantities" at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Essential_oil ]

4. Carl Rogers [Sue (SWIFT) called this one, finding a use for her psychology classes in her education to become a high school Vice-Principal. See https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carl_Rogers ]

5. Phoenician [I pre-called this one, explaining that these merchant seamen founded Carthage, and are now in Lebanon (see the map at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Phoenicia ) and in Ottawa running fine restaurants and shawarma joints. Singer-composer Paul Anka is from Ottawa. Other noted Canadians of Lebanese descent include Joe Ghiz, Premier of the province of Prince Edward Island from 1986-1993, and his son Robert Ghiz, Premier of PEI from 2007-2015; see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Joe_Ghiz and https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Robert_Ghiz .]

6. Limestone [I pre-called this one; see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carlsbad_ ... ional_Park ]

7. Wigan Pier [I pre-called this one; see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Road_to_Wigan_Pier ]

8. Austria-Hungary [I switched my original right answer to Sweden-Norway on a wrong call that reduced all our scores to near-zero; see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Austro-Hu ... se_of_1867 ]

9. Parakeet [I pre-called "Budgie", and we all quickly chose the right answer "Parakeet"; see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Parakeet ]

10. Madeleine Albright [I called this one (on later inspection, the other Choices were all wrong); see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Madeleine_Albright ]

11. Rome [I pre-called this one; see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pines_of_Rome , and for a performance by an American high school band, see https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IvgyfqzLC0A (0-20:14). For the Finale "Pines of the Appian Way", see 15:26-20:14 of this video. ]

12. Fig [I split my votes, getting it right as REACH; see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Banyan ]

13. A singing lion [Chris called this one; see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Chronicles_of_Narnia ]

14. Berlin [I called this one; see the section "Berlin" at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dada . I mentioned that this is not to be confused with the 1982 hit "Da Da Da" by Trio; see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Da_Da_Da , and for a performance, see https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lNYcviXK4rg which Sue remembered.]

15. Hydrogen [I pre-called this one; see the section "History - Discovery and use" at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hydrogen ]

#8 caused some grumbling in Kent because the terminal date of 1912 given in the question seemed to eliminate Austria-Hungary, which we knew existed until 1918 and the end of WW I. Even the post-answer factoid acknowledged this, which caused more grumbling.

"It was during that time I wandered about and starved in Kristiania - Kristiania, that city from which no man departs without carrying with him the traces of his sojourn there." - Knut Hamsun

I shouted down the Sweden-Norway option. This dissolution of that union took place in 1905. Kristiania became Oslo in 1924(?). Confessedly, there's plenty of grey space in there.
