New Scaratings

Just as the swallows returning to Capistrano and the buzzards returning to Hinckley are harbingers of spring, so too is the return of the 8th Annual Brainbuster Cup.

The tournament will be structured pretty much the same as all of the previous editions: It will run for five games (starting on April 7 and running until May 5 this year). Each participating team's final score will be calculated as the cumulative HOF score of their four best performances in those games (in other words, each team gets to drop a low score, which will also ameliorate the impact of any technical or other issues on a particular night). The highest score thus calculated wins, and that team will get the trophy for a year and be required to run the tournament next April.

RULES: Teams must use assembled brainpower only. No computers and no references of any kind during gameplay, either paper or electronic (or telecommunication from outside the location). Using the Buzztime Playmaker app on electronic devices such as iPhones, iPads, or Droid phones is fine, as long as this is the only purpose for which the device is being used, and it is being used in and for the location of the team. Any team that pledges to abide by these rules is welcome to sign up.

As the tournament starts on April 7, the signup period will run from now until midnight on April 6. Please join either on this thread, or on BadBart, or by contacting me by PM or email.

As this will be running concurrently with the McCarthy Cup, we welcome all McCarthy Cup teams to join--the more the merrier!

Although I should point out that the 2nd week is April 14th, the day before taxes are due. Many players will probably stay home and finish their civic duty instead of playing trivia. And then the last week is May 5, also known as Cinco de Mayo down here in Texas. That is a crazy night and locations will definitely be filled with loud party goers making serious trivia play impossible. So those two weeks of the event should probably be postponed.

I suppose this is something that everyone has already figured out, but it is probably incumbent upon me to announce officially that the 8th Annual Brainbuster Cup is postponed indefinitely.

Once we are approaching something that looks like the other side of the current unpleasantness, we will try to reschedule the start of the tournament. Sorry, all.

We may not be fully on the other side of the current unpleasantness, but the team voted last night to resume the long-delayed 8th Annual Brainbuster Cup. The rules will be pretty much the same as posted above, except the tournament will start on April 5 and go to May 3.

The New Yorkers Found Somewhere in Jersey will play the Brainbuster tournament,
though Showdown participation remains impossible.

I have been reminded that Passover will fall on the week of the 19th, so as has become customary for such situations over the years, the tournament will pause for that week and an extra week will be added at the end to make up for it.

I see on FB badbart that Grumpys in Little Rock AR will play. As well as Teasers and Danny Ks.

I'd try to sign up Angry Pepper but all us old farts here in Florida are asleep by 8 pm EDT after gorging ourselves on the $9.95 early bird specials at local restaurants.

And it should go without saying, but Teasers does not tolerate or participate in cheating. We believe we are protected, but it always possible that RICHYK/RICHZK/SPIDEY/SPDRMN/THANNOS will appear on our scoreboard due to him hacking in or even arriving. We entirely disavow him and if his, or anyone else's scores appear at our site, we will remove the scores in calculating our tournament performance.

Well, not exactly Anon. We did have the player run Mudee Thur SIX tournament in Sept ‘20 and again in Sept ‘21. I don’t really remember who won both of those. The Red Fox failed to play in ‘21 so maybe it didn’t really happen.
