liljol finds fleeting fame on last night's "Countdown" game. (10/05/2015)

It was the ten o'clock "Countdown" game. There was a dinosaur question that asked something like, "Which one of these was a dinosaur that weighed 60 pounds?" (Perhaps less, I can't remember the exact weight, but it was a fairly low weight, and there might have been a little more to the question.) The correct answer, that we got immediately, was velociraptor.

However, the correct answer was not the important thing. The important thing was one of the four distractors. I couldn't believe it when this distractor caught my attention. I had to look twice to make sure my eyes weren't lying to me...

The distractor answer that jumped out at me was "liljolasaurus". Yep, if you see it, it's not too hard to break it down into "liljol-asaurus"

(This is NOT a joke! Let me say this again, this is NOT a joke!)

p.s. I must ask liljol if he is aware of this, and what he knows about it.)

p.p.s. I pointed this out to WATSON and DHB, who were playing with me, and they will confirm that this is true, and not a Cloudy joke. Yep, scout's honor, this is absolutely true.

Well, if you catch him in the right light, he does look a lil like a small grumpy (liljol) lizard (saurus).

I have seen a question about religion that one of the distractors was LILJOLISM and I believe the same question had another distractor of MEGUMIISM.

MUDEE, if we have both found Buzztime questions that sneak in a preeminent trivia player's name on one of the distractor answers, I have to think that there may be many more than just liljol and MEGUMI.

I'd like to know what's going on here. I don't have any connections with NTN to ask them about this, but perhaps you do. If so, see what you can find out.

p.s. Anyone else, who finds this curious, is more than welcome to check it out too. :?:

I've seen the Liljol and Megumi question as well. I've also seen Tiefly as an answer before a couple months ago but don't remember the question.

About a week ago there a question on a Supreme Court case, and one of the distractors was "LEWSER vs, Buzztime".

The LILJOLsauarus question was from a Topix game awhile back about dinosaurus, when the split was going. I texted him to watch for it.

Hmmm, we're starting to build a rogues' gallery here...

Does anyone know why NTN is doing this?

Better yet, does anyone know how to get their handle wiggled into a Buzztime distractor question...?

My handle was up as a distractor last week in a Star Wars question, but they spelled it wrong.... ;)

I think it is just for fun. There was a nice LILJOL-centric question about Stanford a few months ago, too, which had all the people who knew him laughing.

I know ANON has showed up as a distractor before, but probably for the same reasons AKBAR showed up. ;)

Damn, Cloudy is such a prosaic handle that even if Buzztime should ever choose to sneak "Cloudy" into one of their distractor answers, no one would ever notice it. :(

Nope, "Cloudysaurus" is too obviously ridiculous. It would never work.

Wait...! There might be some posibilites:

QUESTION

What causes an eclipse of the Moon?

ANSWERS

1- Halley's Comet
2- Utility power outage
3- The vernal equinox
4- A Cloudy day
5- The Earth passing between the Moon and the Sun

Here's another idea:

QUESTION

Who did Cassius Clay beat to win his first heavyweight boxing championship?

ANSWERS

1- Rainy Rodríguez
2- Windy Wilson
3- Snowy Snodgrass
4- Cloudy Calhoun
5- Sonny Liston

If you're in the same sad situation as I am, and "Buzztime" has yet to sneak your handle into a distractor answer, put your thinking cap on, and dream up a "Buzztime" question, where YOU can sneak your handle into one of distractors. When you come up with something, post it here, and maybe we can get someone on the "ScaRatings", who has contacts at NTN, into arm twisting NTN to use it... :D

p.s. I kind of think that NTN probably no longer does this, but many years ago they actually accepted suggested questions and answers from players, and used them on games.

(I might be confused about this. Do any of you old-timers remember it, or is my ever deteriorating brain slipping into a strange form of Alzheimer's, that has no problem remember things that never happened? :?

My handle actually could be the answer to a question.

Which Frazetta painting was on Molly Hatch's first album cover?

I have seen a LILJOLEUM distractor a couple times...

Can't remember what the question was about, probably something about elements.

The old game where competitors submitted questions was Viewer's Review, which played after Showdown on Tuesdays. A given player could only have one question used each week although some folk submitted a question every week (I remember RABBI). It was a great game with many quality and a few unusual questions each week. Two I remember are:

1. What did Gustav Mahler, Walter Gropius and Franz Werfel have in common? Tom Lehrer fans certainly know that but it was the first time it appeared in the NTN/Buzztime universe.
2. By what name was Merwyn Bogue better known?

I would love to see my handle in a question someday. The possibilities for Merkin are endless.
