Just a quick bump as I have updated this thread with more material, with one more edit in a few weeks...

Colorado, MLKjr, and maybe First Ladies hold promise here. :)

I'm good with Mike Nichols movies. 8-)

And I might have to brush up on my The Big Lebowski trivia, by seeing it again from my DVD collection.

Just reviewed the latest BT page for Topix. There are no entries for Topix of 1/29 or 1/30, although Topix are listed for February. I presume an oversight on BT's part, but who knows...

Perhaps NTN Buzztime is deciding which subject matter annoys LILJOL the most, to use for a future TOPIX game. ;)

BT made a belated change to their Topix page, so I was able to finish the listing. I guess LILJOL gets a reprieve until March, although I hear rumors that one of their games will be about the Red Sox.

The west feed may want to study some of the names of newspapers of Denver for the Colorado game.

Good luck on the game.

Pretty good Ramon, I got a 14894 so that was great but could have had a perfect if it wasn't for the Denver newspaper question.

We'll see if the west feed gets it. 8-)

Studying (or an IQ over room temp) will do them not the slightest fucking good because anyone even vaguely sentient in the US knows there are only two papers in flyover country worth even the merest flicker of attention and Denver's 50% of that did not show up as an option in the potential answers even though it was clearly referred to in the final clue, which led nowhere.

I won't insult anybody who can type a URL by telling them what Denver's paper is but when I say that the five options were Times, Tribune, Intelligence, Herald and Dispatch and the last clue was "Post Office" they may understand why I, for the second time ever playing topix, just killed the game, paid my bill, left half a pitcher on the bar and walked out in utter disgust.

Well, I wasn't trying to give anything away before the game was on out west. Just making a joke to see what the reaction was if they did decide to look it up.

Buzztime screws up again. Also didn't see rankings for Six.

I was sure of the result before any answers were up and then knew that they were full of it. Even the last clue as stated pointed to a non-visible answer.

EXTRA! EXTRA!! Buzztime screws up name of leading Colorado newspaper! United States Post Office distances themselves from involvement! EXTRA!!!

Now there is . . . something calling itself the Denver Herald Dispatch, using the domain hdnewspaper.com. Their home page wouldn't fully load for me, and when I clicked their About link, I got an online pharmacy. Apropos, considering the boner Buzztime pulled with this question

Anyway, I have another one of my crossword margin recaps to share, ironically written on the puzzle page of the Calgary Herald. Scroll down for the answers

1. They were the first Europeans in the Colorado area
2. Colorado is called the ______ State
3. Which Colorado city is home to the headquarters of the Rocky Mountain Chocolate Company?
4. At 14,440 feet, this is the highest point in Colorado:
 . The Denver ______ is the leading newspaper of Colorado
6. Fine examples of Anasazi cliff dwellings can be found in ______ National Park
7. This Titanic survivor's home is now a Denver tourist attraction:
8. One of Colorado's two State Songs is "Where the ______ grow"
9. Cory Gardner is well known to Coloradans as a:
10. Leadville is the ______ incorporated city in the U.S. (options were Driest, Highest, Oldest, Wealthiest, Wettest)
11. Which attraction is *not* found in the city of Denver? (Buzztime's emphasis)
12. The Coors brewery in found in which Colorado city?
13. Colorado's scenic and [adjective forgotten] Durango and ______ Railway has operated since 1881
14. The ______ Concert Hall is home base for the Colorado Symphony Orchestra
15. The current population of Colorado is estimated at just over:

1. Spaniards
2. Centennial
3. Durango (I was totally in the dark on this one, and failed to milk more than 3rd clue points)
4. Mount Elbert (easy if you bothered to read the Wikipedia sidebar)
5. Answer coded: Herald. Third clue: Post office. Actual retail answer: Post
6. Mesa Verde
7. Molly Brown
8. Columbines (a pocket strike if you reviewed the list of state symbols)
9. Politician (totally blew this one by failing to comprehend the word politician among the answers)
10. Highest
11. U.S. Air Force Academy (I crashed and burned on this one)
12. Golden
13. Silverton (very pretty valley, especially from the US 550 overlook to the south)
14. Boettcher (guessed it on a phonetic hunch. Considering the previous answers, it's too bad BT didn't ask about something to do with copper here)
15. 5.3 million (other choices were something like 2.1, 3.5, 7.4 and 9.2 millions)

I think I scored 12,140, which includes a full thousand for being lucky enough to choose the "right" newspaper. Aside from that debacle, I liked this game well enough. Shoulda been a question about sports (e.g. Where did the Avalanche move from in 1995?), and I personally would have liked to see a question about the Denver Mint

Post subject:  Re: January 2015 Topix

full (and perhaps counterintuitive given my interests) disclosure: I would have had to have guessed on the symphony hall question and would not have likely picked the correct one unless the other options were either known venues elsewhere or stupid lazy shit like "Tiefly Hall". I had already lost 79 pts due to an errant finger before the Post debacle, therefore I am guessing I would have had a declared score of about 13100 had I had the patience to carry on past that unforgivable absurdity, or about 14100 had they had an ounce of fucking sense and/or work ethic and got the Post right.

TL:DR version - would have missed the medal hunt anyway. No great horror at the best of times, but I'd much rather do that on lack of knowledge on my part than lack of give-a-shit on the part of the writer and editor/proofer (if the latter even exists).
