"Brainbuster" is pretty tough, but does anybody remember the name of the NTN game that was very similar that preceded it?

Brainbuster.

Really -- the game has changed so much the original should just be known as another game.

Anyway, I remember it being Brainbuster going back to circa 1998. Well, I think I do anyway.

With the exception of a short time, BB has been the lead in to SD since at least 1993. In the interim, Restore Order replaced it when they inexplicably moved BB to Wednesday.

I seem to remember that there was once a news/current events quiz in that position. It didn"t last more than a few years, perhaps in the late 80s or early 90s. I do not recall the title (it was not Abused News, a mutant version the the entertainment promoters developed later, but one that was more enjoyable to play, requiring knowledge of real events and world leaders, rather than the ET-style gossip about actors or rock musicians).

I believe the name of the similar game that preceded "Brainbuster" was "Einstein".

That sounds plausible. I definitely remember his frazzled visage gracing the screen, but I wonder if he was just the icon used for Brainbuster?

When I started playing regularly in 2001, my usual day was Tuesday. Back then, the Brainbuster title screen featured Einstein in some wacky psychedelic colouration which I cannot find on Google images. Also, Showdown's category screens and background were sepia-toned classical motifs which I remember included a pocket watch, thunderstorm, and pyramids

In my 21 years I don't remember a game called Einstein although I also seem to remember his likeness being used for BB.
