What is the structure for this--is it highest total score for the month? I haven't seen that listed anywhere.

(And an aside--I notice that Buzztime has this listed as "Rock, Paper, Scissors, Spock." Is there some sort of labor dispute, such that the lizards have been locked out? <g>)

It is the highest combined score for the five Sci-files games in October. Top three places.

I also noticed the lost lizards. Perhaps the lizard got another job shilling auto insurance?

Actually the lizard is there on at least one of the screens at SRO OT advertising the tournament.

My daughter, Blair, who I recruited for tonight so I wouldn't have to play five boxes by myself, has a connection to Jim Parsons, who via Sheldon on "Big Bang Theory" popularized the game. Before making it big on TV and Broadway, Jim Parsons was a University of Houston grad acting in the Infernal Bridegroom theatre company here. That company eventually fell apart, but its originator/artistic director, Jason Nodler, started the Catastrophic Theatre company. Jim Parsons has been extremely generous to Catastrophic, including making a donation this year for the specific purpose of funding a new position. Catastrophic did so--and Blair recently was hired to fill it as the Director of Community Relations. So we take particular delight in anything such as "RPSLS" that keeps Sheldon and the "Big Bang" gang popular with the viewers.

BTW for a story on the origin of RPSLS, including a clip of Mr. Parsons explaining the rules and crediting the game's creator, see http://h30565.www3.hp.com/t5/Feature-Ar ... /ba-p/3551.

If you have a restraining order against you from Leonard Nimoy, are you still allowed to throw Spock?

Although, I didn't ask. Somehow, Sandbar showed up on the list of participating establishments.

We got pluspoints, but not 10K. Congrats to all who kicked our rear end.

Nice contest BOD, thanks for setting it up.

Question on how the scoring works, you said it's all 5 weeks of Oct and that it's highest combined score?
Is that combined bar average (top 5 boxes) or something else?

The scores shown on the Hardtimes location page for the contest don't seem to reflect what's shown in the Hall of Fame?

Can you explain how the scoring is done?
Probably should have explained all this before the contest started don't you think.

Here's a pic of KEN K & ISSUES at Hardtimes last night in their matching Sheldon shirts.

Yeah I see that part SCAR, so why is the order different for Blue Goose & Buffaloes, after Heroes?

After being here over a year, my first team score in Atlanta. Me and my tow boxes, my wife Bigdog, SAC (Steve) and his girlfriends handle LALA, and Ron.

Who hoo, a team of 4 with 6 playmakers. And we hit ze boards, not bad.

Some of the bars from the HOF aren't in the torney of course, just wondering about those that are in.

hypothesis: similar to Smartest Bar:

HOF: As of the split, or the day after the split, the HOF removes unregistered guest players' scores from counting toward the site.

Real-time post-game broadcast: continues to include guests as it did before the split.

Special game site statistics pages set up by Buzztime: continues to include guests, and therefore is always higher than HOF if differing from HOF.

I haven't checked these but it sounds like you are describing the same phenomenon as what I know about Smartest Bar.

Not in that order, of course.

Next week we'll probably whip out our Rock Paper Scissors Lizard Spock gear.

Ok. First of all sorry for not adressing this sooner. When I checked this morning, the HOF was not up yet so I only had the competition scores. I have sent a e-mail to the rep who set this up to get this clarifed. Until then I can only speculate the same as you.

It is cumulative points, top five scores per site, added up over five weeks. This is based on HOF scores. Having said that, I am not sure why the competition scores preceded the HOF posting. As for the difference in scores for Blue Goose I can only guess there was a guest score that was later purged in the HOF. If so, we would have to go with the HOF score.

Here are the current top ten per the HOF:

1 Heroes Wichita Wichita, KS 68,085
2 Shenanigans San Angelo, TX 67,200
3 Blue Goose Sports Cafe CINCINNATI, OH 66,430
4 Buffalos Bar and Grill II Greensboro, NC 66,155
5 Mezzanine Lounge Houston, TX 64,390
6 Break Time Sports Grill Salisbury, MD 62,910
7 86th Street Pub Indianapolis, IN 60,030
8 Highlands Grill Kennesaw, GA 59,770
9 Jakes Lubbock, TX 58,900
10 Stewarts Brewing Bear, DE 57,950

Again, I hope to get clarification from my BT rep soon.

My halfway attempt at work today to score the participating locations is attached.

I keyed it by "bar"-"city". I was able to correct some inconsistencies, but was not thorough. I also only scraped the first page of both east & west. Therefore, a zero could be: not on the first page or spelled differently between the HOF and the participating locations list.

Copy/paste between emails was formatted horribly. Screencap was just easier.

Look here for the Buffaloes detail:

http://www.buzztime.com/site/3157/gamep ... 1003163000

Game details show players ranked 1,2, then 4,5,6,7.

BT purged the 3rd place box, decreasing the bar average on the HOF, but left the unpurged total in the competition page.

Frankly, the competition page is better, we just can't see the handle associated with the score. You can reverse engineer the score within rounding differential, but I don't care enough to do that. they beat my site either way !

Congrats to everyone, appeared we were around 24th, of all the questions I drew a brain fart on Cheryl Ladd on the Millenium movie question, should have gotten that, but probably because not a very memorable movie

Ok, I finally got a definitive answer from my Buzztime rep. We will use the scores listed on the competition page. These scores do include guest scores. Guest scores are purged from the Hall of Fame listings.

Sorry for any confusion. When we set this up, I was unaware of the purging of guest scores for the HOF listings. If I had been aware, I would have clarified the issue ahead of time. Let the beatings begin!

Thanks for the clarification BOD...of course we are doing so bad that we can't even see how bad that is in the short list.

New picture from last night, ISSUES & KEN K in their dorky tourney shirts. Sorry about the poor camera phone pic.

I don't know much about the folks at Buffalo's Bar and Grill II, but I'm a big fan of their work. :D
Quite frankly, I was just happy to not stink up the joint two weeks in a row.
Despite the best efforts of the Greensboro contingent, I'm convinced the team to beat is the combined effort playing at the Mezz.
If Coogs can get free from work (and quite possibly even without) this one is going to be a toughie as I doubt my luck of having many more games with only two sf book questions is going to last. :D
Missed them both, BTW... :(

And we got both the books questions, although the second was a team good guess because I'd lost track of the Ringworld series.

We won't know about COOGS's schedule until next week at the earliest. We do know that he has to work weekends, so there's a 2/5 chance Wednesday will be a night off--and he's trying to get it along with Tuesday so he can rejoin us at SRO OT for the Sandbaggers' tournament--but then Mezzanine has gotten in its Saint Arnold's Christmas Ale, which next Wednesday I will probably partake of, so one never knows how it will all come out.

It's great to be playing with SLOTEK, BISHOP, D MOB, and HUNTER (plus their other aliases) again, and having the chance this past Wednesday to meet Bobby (GOGETEM), but I am very sorry about having to abandon SRO OT. However, playing five boxes there wasn't going to cut it when the competition is this high.

I didn't read any of the series past Ringworld Engineers, so I was pre-thinking Throne, then we got flusterated and just fumble-guessed 3 when it wasn't listed. And the other book Q, we started with Powers because 'I don't trust guys named Iain' :).

We did poorly, my unoffical two week total has us at 102,561.
