Well, hell. A most unusual thing happened at one of the BWWs in Vegas earlier today (specifically, BWW Mall Ring Circle in Henderson, across from Sunset Station).

After getting one of their 1.0 tablets (of course, with both lil legs broken :(), I then asked the server to have BT trivia put on one of the monitors in the dining area. I was told that they could no longer do so. The manager on duty then told me that BWW would not be putting trivia one poker on monitors by corporate direction, due to issues with burn-in.

Needless to say, should this be fact, it will make banging away at BWWs far less attractive than it can be already. Based on what another has found out in another area, though, the issue of burn-in may well be an isolated one.

If that is the case, BT absolutely must fix the tablet lag issue that has existed for over two years now.

Odds of that happening?

And by the way lil buddy, you're in Vegas. Go be a degenerate at a casino. Not like there's any fun BT players in Sin City.

I agree, Since RTOs put in tablets, I still use the screen. The tablet has too much of a delay. I can usually read the question, make my choice, and then look down at the tablet and the answers are still slowly scrolling in. If the possible answers are long and take time to read, its tough to get 1K while reading directly from the tablet.

All the BWW here in MD have the 2.0 tablets now. They all have trivia and poker on TV screens. In fact the GM of our location mentioned that they are required to have at least 1 of each on a TV in the bar area. Both for the players and for the BWW ads that all will see. (except during major sporting events of course)

So I'd say that Vegas BWW is full of Shit. There is no burn in, the screens change often enough.

We play at our backup bar (BWW) when our home establishment hosts its annual St Patrick's Day party (March 14)... so I'll be curious to see then if the game is still on TV screens or only on tablets.

Obviously, this wouldn't be a big deal for regular players. But its the TV screen that creates awareness of the game & drives interest in new players getting a box/tablet. So this would be a big blow to buzztime if BWW is taking the game off tv screens.

My BWW still has smaller tvs on the sides of the two big screens at the bar. I've been told by management that they are AFRAID of burn-in on the big screen from THe/BT.

We still have the good ol blue boxes...complete with the infamous lag.

Ok, yes our BWW gm did say the burn in could be true on the 2 big projector TV screens. But certainly not any of the other 50 plasma/LCD TVs.

I still say that Vegas bww is making shit up and clearly exaggerating so they don't have deal with trivia players and that is not acceptable.

Burn does happen on the trivia screens, especially if you use the sidebar advertising.

That said, the bigger concern is that any place that has tablets will have a reason to take trivia off of the TV screens. As someone else already said, that takes away from new players and the excitement, as well killing off the possibility of what I call "passive play." That is, those players who never pick up a playmaker, but who frequently look up at the trivia screens. For a big chain like BWW's, individual site managers generally don't give a poop about trivia. NTN is of course catering to the big chain(s), hence the drive for more integration of the tablet technology into the ordering and paying processes.

It might seem like a good idea to the revolving door of MBA's who have been in NTN upper management, but it will ultimately kill them. Just like with the restaurant pagers they had for a while, there are other companies that do it better and cheaper. NTN should have always been concentrating on the one thing that they actually did better than anyone else: a continent-wide real-time trivia game. Jesus - they had the market cornered. Now they're likely to lose it all.

The more time that passes, the more it seems LEWSER has been right all along: NTN is a bunch of dumbfucks.

I wonder what will happen with the Mobile Playmaker app then if BWW drops trivia from their tv screens due to the tablets. You have enough players with multiple accounts and families getting tablets for each kid to keep them happy. Any player with the Mobile Playmaker would be playing blind at BWW if they dropped it from their tvs.

NTN is aware of non players watching the screens (4 watchers for each player some years back) and paid to have that documented to support some of their ad rates.

The problem really is big during Six, particularly rounds 1 and 3. In Marathon, if the clue gives you enough information to get an answer you had no idea of, you may not have time on the tablet to punch it in, and bye-bye 2K bonus.

We have learned from experience to look at the big screen during Six.

Oh, the side bar advertising. Luckily all the Maryland franchise BWWs haven't figured out how to use that side bar advertising.

Well, hell. From what another manager at BWW Galleria Mall Ring Circle told me today, sounds like they have a unique problem. Supposedly they do not have the option of putting Buzztime Trivia on monitors. :o

Well, hell. Same (so far, anyway) is true for all seven BWWs in NTN Buzztime's Site-Poor Backyard.
