A couple of guys I play with for Showdown have been asking me why it is that there seem to be a series of questions on Tuesday's that have a particular theme. One Tuesday it was feline questions, another it was military, another it was literature, and this past Tuesday it seemed to be food based questions. They said they were not seeing the point of having a game with 8 or 9 questions of one topic make up a game, since they have games called Topix twice a week. If they want more theme games, why not just add more Topix games to the schedule. Also they were curious how other players felt about these games? They ask me because they know I visit on here sometimes and they don't have any way of talking to other players around the country.

I think there are days other than Tuesday that Countdown games seem to have themes in the last six months to a year.

Yep, I've definitely noticed that. It could be intentional in Countdown, but I doubt it. I suspect they dump a block of 50 questions or so on the same theme into the Countdown database, and the random shuffler does a poor job of dispersing the questions. It seemingly ends up with 3 or so questions of that particular theme every single Countdown game for hours of Countdown games in a row.

I guess it's enjoyable if you like the theme, irritating if you don't. Overall, it's not good for Countdown.

Yesterday, there was a multitude of orchestra/instrument questions during the day. One day last week, it was bible/religion blocks of questions.

If I saw those as Topix game categories, I would not go out of my way to play.

Or maybe paly at all.

Well, hell. Today there were a few questions that were part of Academy of Football (FBS teams' mascots). Image
