We made the decision to go with JPT because of its on-demand nature. When we are working with partners that want to maximize their reach, having an on-demand option can be appealing since they know they will get more eyes on the game. There is always room for scheduled games and we still use them (Academy of Football as an example). Its really more about what Buzztime and its partners feel is the best fit for the players and the goals of the partnership.
JPT sponsored by the Redskins actually has multiple leaderboards. We added a new trivia league points scoring system to that version of JPT only in that target marketing. each week players compete to win tours of FedEx field and Redskins Park. 2 people each week based on their league points win. Then the top player at the end of the 9 week season will win two tickets to London to watch the Redskins play a preseason game. Those prizes are all based on league points (with game score being the tie breaker if needed).
We are also throwing a party at the top location at the end of the season based on the total gameplay.
The Trivia League feature is new to JPT and we plan to expand it based on what we learn from this initial 9 week season. We would like to make it a nationwide offering with options to expand to include things like player driven leagues in the future.
If any of you get a chance to play I'd love to hear your thoughts about how we integrated the ad breaks into the game. One of the issues we've had with JPT is that the game moves so fast you can't go get a drink or have much of a conversation while you are playing.
Hi Clint, thanks for joining Scar and thanks for the explanation of why to use Jackpot for the Redskins promo.
I am a big Redskins fan and I have played the Redskins version of Jackpot a few times in between regularly scheduled network games. It was quite slow I thought, you hit an answer right away and you wait forever for the clock to tick down, way slower than CD or LT. Then no break between the end and the start of the next game as you said. I would have liked the Redskins promo used with scheduled games. I feel your partners would have a far better reach and tons more eyes on the game that way. Maybe an experiment for season 2 could involve CD. I'll guarantee that would get more reach to more players and also those all important non players.
The scheduled games are what people playing BT (and not playing) see on the TVs. Very few people see Jackpot, only on the tablets, never on TV. I don't think the on demand feature is getting much reach at all compared to where the promo could be. It's like you have relegated it to a 2nd tier.
I did see the ranking screens, they seem pretty good. However, they are just weekly and season totals not rankings from the game just completed. Players want bar and individual rankings for the just completed games. That's what we come out for, we meet up on certain days at certain times to play a schedule of games against the rest of North America. On demand games, usually played solo, are not a draw at all. Sure the 1st time players and BWW kids may stumble on it, but it's not a draw to come back several times a week for years and decades on end like CD, LT and the Prime games are.
Getting the Redskins on board was a huge deal. I would love to see The Redskins involved with a top level promotion like Dr Pepper was. But please don't make the qs ALL about football (that was a turnoff), just tie it into the already produced CD games.
Keep up the good work, we do realize how hard it is with the reduced numbers of BT employees and remember the scheduled and ranked network is the big draw.
Thanks for listening.
