Trivial pursuit: Seniors join in community trivia

November 22, 2016 by Nicole Stempak, Senior Editor

Question: Seniors can now play trivia against

a. each other

b. other long-term care facilities

c. people at restaurants and sports bars

d. all of the above.

Answer: D, all of the above.

Buzztime, Inc., the company behind trivia game tablets and monitors in sports bars and restaurants, is bringing trivia to seniors. As part of a partnership, Buzztime will install its trivia system in the common areas of all new Harbor Chase Senior Living Communities.

Residents and visitors can play Buzztime trivia and games by themselves, with others in the room, in live group trivia contests at other HarborChase communities or with anyone on the Buzztime network at one of hundreds of venues nationwide.

"Buzztime has provided a unique way for our residents and family members of all ages to bond through Buzztime's entertainment technology," said Peggy Connelly, National Director of Life Enrichment and Memory care for Harbor Retirement Associates, in a press release. "Fun competition also allows our residents to connect with others from across the country. In addition to creating opportunities for fun relationships, the Buzztime system helps to support our residents' overall cognition and brain fitness, helping them to enjoy life to the fullest."

Buzztime is creating tailored game content for residents and visitors of all ages to enjoy that will be shown on large displays in the common areas. When not in use, those displays will show community messages and other relevant content for residents

There's one about ten minutes from where I live. Pretty sure I couldn't crash the place, though.

Sounds like they are closer to finally figuring out their target demographic.

Ouch...
Subjecting seniors to all of the topics games on the schedule that are full of nothing but crap from the last year or so seems unusually cruel.
On a brighter note, the Speed Freaks games should be a hoot...

I think such facilities are a fertile potential market for BT. Trivia can help delay memory loss. Its something all senior housing should consider. But according to a friend who is a nurse in a nearby home, the cost would make it difficult to add.
