Post subject:  Report Tablet Lockup locations here

I'm starting this new thread to take over the ambiguous "Has this ever happened" thread.

I've been in contact with a knowledgeable person at Buzztime about the increasing frequency of the 3rd Gen tablet mid game lockups.

BT needs location, date and time of the lockup. They are looking into it, I don't think they were aware of the growing problem before today.

I mentioned BWW Gaithersburg, BWW Kent, BWW Henderson, Sandbar, Wild Bills, BWW Salisbury as having recent lockup trouble.

Please post any and all new lockup occurrences when they happen, provide location, date and approx time, I will pass info on to the right BT contact.

This can be fixed! :?

BW3 Sandusky, last Friday 12-8-17, between 7-8:30PM during a Countdown (don't remember exact time).

I knew exactly what it was when it happened from reading the articles here.

Manager had to reboot the system.

I also didn't know that the buzztime systems were still running Windows XP?

While playing Six at BWW Palm Desert, CA on Dec 14.
During marathon 6, the tablets locked up at approx 18:09, the TV's kept working
normally. Was able to exit game on the tablet, 6 was not available on the game menu.
Was able to log in and play with an iphone.
At approx 18:29 Six magically appeared on the game menu and all was well again.

It is interesting that the standard length of the lockout is almost always 20 minutes.

BWW Palm Desert CA and Sandbar Newport News VA reported to BT.

Both of those seemed to happen at same time during Thur SIX.

Has anyone seen this lockup during the day/happy hour? Or only after about 7:30/8pm eastern?

Our lockups have all happened between 7:00 and 9:30 on Tuesdays, but then again those are the only times we play.

Ours at BWW Gaithersburg have happened on Thur, Fri and Sat between about 7:00 and 9:30. We have players there from 5 to 11 generally. We don't play Tues so wouldn't know about that night. Does a tablet lockup if there is no one there to see it?

Sandbar 12/15 off 5:53 and back on 6:14 (Eastern time)
It started just before question 15 and returned in time for round 3 of the next game.

Yes, I've been told it happens at other times as well, but do not know the specifics.

And thanks for helping us all out with this.

Sandbar again, seems to be one of the worst hit.

No answers yet from BT.

Reboot the BT computer as soon as the lockup hits and you'll only lose a few questions. Takes about 3 or 4 minutes maybe. Better than 20 mins. Of course that knocks out any phones that might be playing, in Gaithersburg that's none.

Thanks, and guess what:

Monday 12/18 7:50-ish back on at 8:15 (ish) back in time for the last round of the movie game.

I was told that there was one on Sunday. From looking at the game history everybody playing six o'clock countdown, got a "start the clock" at 6:17.

As far as re-booting the the computer goes:

I've witnessed two times.
1st: By the time we could get a bartenders attention, and then by the time they could do it. Add a few minutes for a system reboot. It was twenty minutes anyhow.

2nd: The bar was quite slow. We could get the bartender's attention immediately and they had no problem (and nothing else better to do) than getting the stepladder to reach and reboot the system.
We lost a round in that game, and then it bonked again at the beginning of the next game.

After that second instance, it's not worth the effort to have that happen.

Happened again at BWW Palm Desert, CA on Wed 12/20 for Six. After SciFi, the tablets were
locked up on the last national leader board for SciFi. They started working again at 18:54, more than
20 minutes. Worked fine until 19:14, then they locked up on the commercials after marathon Six.
Thought they were working at 19:24 but they were not working for the next game, so we left.

BWW Gaithersburg, after3 questions of the 6:00 (Eastern) Countdown on December 21st. Rebooted the system and didn't get back in until the end of Q15. Cost us some perfect games too *

Sandbar Thursday 12/21
I arrived at 5:20-ish to a game blockout. It returned at 5:42.
We were out again from 7:12 to 7:39.

======
I was told it happened once before I arrived. The folks then had the system rebooted and it worked for "10 minutes" and then the game blocked again. I arrived during that one.

Sandbar 12/22 6:08-6:28 We were able to play the 1st round at six o'clock, then blocked out until just before the 6:30 game.

When I arrived I asked one of the earlier players, & there was an outage during the four o'clock hour.

Gosh, XP really? How quaint
Maybe it would benefit from a defragmentation then?

Sandbar seems to have real big problems. We got through the weekend with no lock ups in Gaithersburg after the one on Thur.

Zzuupp, you need to ask Sandbar management to call BT customer service at 1 800 745 4686 and tell them about all the lock ups and get a new computer sent out. Your problem is bigger than just a software glitch. You need bigger computer help right away.

Otherwise, I have not heard anything back from the tech team "looking into" this. Christmas holidays you know.

Well, hell. Refurbished 1st generation tablets also have this problem. It happened today at BWW Mission Valley around 1220. Lunchtime Trivia on the tablet came back around 1300.

Maybe, just maybe, one of the alleged software updates have caused this debacle.

Thanks for all the help.

And first the bad news, we got a new PC about a month ago. See how much that has helped. :(

On Saturday, we had two lockouts from 5:50-5:27 and from 6:50-7:17.

I did not play on Sunday or Monday.
The daytime bartender (BECK) has a theory about a "devil box" .
I won't see her until Friday. I'll get more details then.

It was marked and taken out of service on Sunday.
I was told all was good on Monday.
We had no lockouts tonight.

Hmmm, a bad tablet bringing the system to a halt? That's a good one I hadn't thought of, explains why it's so sporadic. We have about 40 tablets, some of which aren't used much other than for the kids games. At locations with heavy use like Sandbar that bad devil tablet could be in use all the time.

I do recall on one of our lockups someone was just signing in.

Zzuupp, how where they able to identify the bad "devil" tablet to take out it out of circulation??

No, I do not know how it was identified yet.
With 6+" of snow on the ground, I doubt I'll be going out tomorrow either.

For better or worse, the demon box theory might have been debunked. I was told that the game timed out even with that box sequestered.

I haven't seen the bartender who started the theory. MOO & SPOONS told me that there were time outs with that box not being used.

Thankfully, there were no time outs tonight.

Post subject:  Re: Report Tablet Lockup locations here

The good news is that our location has not had this issue for many weeks. I had hoped the demon box theory might be right, because we got the management to send back the known defective boxes.

The bad news is that that was seven weeks ago. The manager pulled me aside last night and told me that he has been calling Buzztime every week for the last several weeks to get the replacements, and they still haven't come. He said the breakdown seems to be with a third party of some sort which is supposed to be fulfilling the order.

As a result, we had several people who couldn't play last night. I tried to help them download the Buzztime Mobile Playmaker App, but it seems that it not only will not work with the new Apple iOS, but also has been removed from the App Store entirely.
