I tend to agree in most respects with GONE D, Jim--Because Countdown is the most-played game on the network, and more accessible than games like Brainbuster, it makes sense to pick that game for the promotion.

In contrast, I also think that it makes sense to schedule it for the evening. I suspect BT is well aware of the figures on afternoon/evening playership. With $1,000 on the line, this could draw a lot of those afternoon players out to combine with the usual evening crowd, thus bumping up total playership, and maybe getting them to stay for premium games, too. Furthermore, for these people to increase their chances, the possibility of a cash prize might incentivize players to invite others to team up with, which would also increase playership.

I know this is only anecdotal, but if this was indeed the reasoning, it did work for my team. In our 15 years of existence, we have literally never come out to play on a Saturday. Nevertheless, at least ten showed up at the Red Fox Grill on Saturday to try for it. They didn't win, of course, but they did order a bunch of food and drinks while they played; and a few stayed to watch a football game there, ordering more drinks. I suspect they will go again for the next couple of Saturdays, too.

Last night I was surprised to see my 11,008 do so well and show 26th. I fully expected for a much lower rank. Dropped to 54th but still satisfied to see I did that well on a game I thought was pretty hard. Knew I probably didn't have a chance at the thousand dollars but I like the premise of the promotion.

Another data point indicating the continuing degradation of the Buzztime website:
The Location column re-displays your home bar, not where you were actually playing.

As an aside, "Top Winners" is an interesting label. Perhaps they are anticipating multiple GONE D victories, which is well within the realm of possibility.

Since when is teamwork not fair? The good news is that BWW-Kent does not have a patent on teamwork, so if any other team wants to gather and do the same thing, they are welcome to. I’m sure that both Buzztime and locations hosting those teams would also welcome the additional patronage. :-)

The Realm of Possibility being infinitely greater than the Realm of Reality, I scrounged up 1700 points on the final five questions of last Tuesday's version of Money Countdown (12.4.18), and still finished 30th. Through the first two iterations, this is Countdown with serious teeth.

For the sake of consistency, I dropped the last three questions in Showdown as well.

The Russian ladies who do my mending inform me that the ass-end of the trousers I wore last Tuesday have been irreparably damaged.

I've always hoped to end up with Michael Caine carrying around my skull in a satchel.

Here is a recap from the $1000 game last night. I apologize I didn't have time to write down the choices, so some of these are open ended

1. What stock was offered publicly for 1st time in 2013?
2. What 2018 movie stars Jennifer Lawrence?
3. Who became Australia prime minister in 2018?
4. Rihanna had a hit in 2016 with...
5. Which city is 851 nautical miles from Boston?
6. Who had a 2017 novel, Camino Island?
7. Which is a hard cheese?
8. Zahnarzt is the German word for..
9. The series "The Deuce" is set in which time period?
10. Liverpool's airport is named after?
11. Which baseball player did not reach 30 home runs in 2018?
12. Which is a type of leap in ballet?
13. Kurt Wagner is the real name of what superhero?
14. Which country is biggest by area? Finland, Malaysia, New Zealand, Paraguay
15. Which element name is not derived from Greek origin?

Congrats to Mad River for winning the game, and to Tuebor from West Park Station for winning the money! The Fellowship ended up being bridesmaids on both counts.

Thanks for sharing that. I don't think I'll get to play one of these and was curious about how the questions would be.

Saturday's game was probably the closest I will come - I was 18th.

I have added for posterity the locations of the winning plays, in the first post of the thread - 6 for 6 for different locations so far.

What I love about the money game questions is how most of them are written in a style that is resistant to googling quickly. That has made me much more interested in playing *every* game. I hope that continues when they switch this to the new Sunday TOPIX in January.
