Post subject:  Voting for the Trivia Hall Of Fame

For the first time ever, a representative of the Buzztime Community has been nominated for the Trivia Hall Of Fame. The Fellowship and I were humbled to find out this week that we are on the ballot for the Class of 2020. While we would be honored to be enshrined, we also think a recognition of NTN/Buzztime in the Hall Of Fame is long overdue.

Plus, if you ever played with us, you would technically be a Hall-Of-Famer, too!

Voting is easy: Just go to http://www.triviahalloffame.com/vote/vote.php and vote for three choices. Because James Holzhauer is a shoo-in, it would probably maximize our chances if he was one of your three votes, too. No more than four can be elected in any year.

I know that all this sounds like self-promotion, which will seem strange to those of you who have known me over the years (going back to the old Buzztime Forums). I have long been uncomfortable with self-promotion--one of the main reasons I chose my handle to be ANON more than 20 years ago.

But you will also know that I have never had trouble praising my team—an extraordinary group of people who are not only super-smart, but also super-nice, and super-team-oriented players. This is really about them. When the Hall Of Fame informed us that it was considering us, but that it only inducts “people, not groups,” I asked the team if we wanted to decline consideration for this reason. Yet they overwhelmingly voted not only to be considered, but also to choose me as the avatar for the team (with the crucial “et al.” qualifier). Regardless what you may think of me, their consistently-excellent performance over many years is ample proof that they really deserve this. I sincerely hope you will consider voting for us, and encourage your Buzztime friends to vote for us, too.

Sincerest thanks for your consideration.

ANON

Oh Big Shot Hall of Famers, how did you do last night?

The final voting and induction ceremony for the HoF has been at the annual trivia weekend in Las Vegas in August. You guys should come for the weekend, as I have urged you before. As you probably know, Paul Paquet runs the HoF and several other activities there. Paul plays out of Ottawa and I think has played some Buzztime at one of the locations there always on the board.

Last night, Reb and Hammer from Time Out on Tuesdays and myself got together and played on phones and got 2,3,4 in BB (no doubt because at least one location was not playing) and 1,2,3 in Glory Daze. Alas no Showdown yet on the phone. Kinda felt like a methadone night.

In truth, though, it was very weird. We have played every single non-Christmas/New Year's-adjacent Tuesday since Stringz & Wingz closed in 2013 and we were trivia-homeless for a few weeks until we landed at BWW-Kent. We were missing not just our weekly trivia fix, but our weekly hang-out-with-other-Fellowshippers fix. At least this campaign will give us some virtual interaction with each other, and something to do on Tuesday nights. :D

A few of us are planning on doing just that (if it will still be held, of course). That gathering is one of my bucket-listy things I was hoping to do before I turn senile. There would be no time like this year, though.

Paul plays at Whispers, which has been tearing it up ever since the old New Edinburgh Pub/Buster's Bar group settled there along with its pre-existing team. I really look forward to meeting him in person.

Thanks so much, BUGG! If by some colossal misunderstanding you find yourself in Akron, Ohio on a Tuesday night after this current unpleasantness is all over, please play with us and let me buy you a drink.

For those of you who have ever wondered what The Fellowship looks like on a good night, now is your chance:

If you have not yet voted for us the Trivia Hall Of Fame, now is also your chance. I'm not sure when the balloting closes, but it increasingly feels that this might be the last chance to get a representative from the NTN/Buzztime community into the HOF while Buzztime is still a going concern. :(

Thank you Anon. Both articles were well written.Thank you for helping to get buzztime some recognition.Hope you get in the Hall of Fame.At one time I emailed buzztime and suggested they have a Hall of Fame.I got an email back saying it was a good idea and that they would pass the suggestion on.That was the last I heard of it.

I'm skeptical. The article said James Holzhauer won 33 games. He only won 32. Based on that, who knows what else this article might have been exaggerating.....
