We found yesterday that some of our phones/tablets could no longer sign into
any locations, while others could. These tablets worked fine on March 1;
they stopped March 2. We get a "There are no games running at the moment in this
location or venue" message. The devices in question run Android 6 or 7; while our operative
equipment runs later versions than that.

Has anyone else recently encountered the same problem? New versions of apps often break
apps using older versions of Android, but it does not appear Buzztime has updated its app for
almost two years. Nor does this seem to be some case of lockout, since other remote devices
continue to work at the same locations using the same methodology.

The client app may not have changed, but Buzztime may have changed something on the server side.

If I'm not mistaken, devices running Android 7 won't have received any system updates for at least 2 years, so Buzztime might have tweaked something that requires a newer version of Android to connect.

(Incidentally, those devices also won't have received any security updates for 2 years, so I'd be pretty nervous about trying to connect them to anything.)

Just my guess ...

Stro, I have not heard of any problems. The people I know playing remote have apple products or newer Android stuff. So maybe it hasn't affected anyone I know? I do know the apple 1 and 2 iPads will not work with the app but that is not a new thing.

There is one thing I have heard regarding lockouts, BT can target individual handles for lockout if they are bouncing around remotely from bar to bar too much. I think it's the obvious players at multiple bars in the same day possibly crossing times zones. That probably doesn't apply here I'd guess.

Update on this. I have now heard of a few people using older versions of apple IOS not being able to connect as of a few days ago. They are going to update their version to current and try again. So there does seem to be some kind of sunsetting of older operating systems looks like both Android and Apple. Upgrade as far as possible for the device and see if it works.

There are ways to upgrade devices past what the manufacturer gives you. I did that with one of the devices, bringing it from Android 7 to 9,and yes, Buzztime now works fine with it.
