As far as playing baseball goes, I got as far as walking onto the WVU baseball team my freshman year, before being asked to walk off the baseball team my freshman year. I played every position but catcher. The end of my baseball career signified the start of my soft ball career. Which also started my beer belly career. Fortunately, only my beer belly career thrived. No air conditioning or PMs on the diamond makes tiefly not miss sports at all.

Great! TIEFLY I'll pencil you in as a possible for all of the positions.

I really like your warm up ritual before suiting up.

Nuts. How about we discuss this year's Division I College World Series instead? Image

As some of you have seen in another thread, The California Golden Bears, who started this year with the unfortunate prospect of playing their last season, now find themselves two wins away from their sixth appearance in The CWS and a chance at their third CWS Championship. The Golden Bears advance as the Houston Regional Champions, ousting the host and overall 8 seed, The Rice Owls, and also winning two of three from The Baylor Bears. Their opponents, The Dallas Baptist Patriots, advance as the Fort Worth Regional Champions, beating the host TCU Horned Frogs along the way
.

Good luck to your Dancing Bears lildude.

The Golden Bears and The Patriots will square off in the only Super Regional not hosted by any of the eight highest seeds. For whatever reason(s), their Super Regional will be at The University of Santa Clara; IMO way more than a lil strange, especially since The Broncos were not a part of this year's CWS. Image

In other Super Regionals, the overall 1 seed Virginia Cavaliers host The University of California Irvine Anteaters; 2 seed Florida hosts Mississippi State; 3 seed North Carolina hosts that eternally damnable junior university; 4 seed South Carolina hosts UConn; 5 seed Florida State hosts Texas A & M; 6 seed Vanderbilt hosts Oregon State; and 7 seed, brandyb's Texas Longhorns host THE ICEMAN's Arizona State Sun Devils.

Sorry brandyb, but them cows is goin' down. Image

Well, a ticket to Omaha is on the line today as THE ICEMAN's Sun Devils and brandyb's cows split the first two. Image Meanwhile, HEELAX's North Carolina Tarheels send the eternally damnable junior university back home. Image

My California Golden Bears are one win away from their sixth CWS after winning the first game over The Dallas Baptist Patriots. Image Unfortunately, The California-Irvine Anteaters must win today and tomorrow if they are to get to Omaha. Image

Can't believe a divorce is ruining baseball, as in the LA Dodgers. Frank McCourt better not sue MLB so he and Jamie McCourt move on. It's the team the reason the divorce is nasty and it's the divorce the reason Bud Seilg and MLB is running the club and possibility taking over ownership of the Dodgers. Steve Garvey and Orel Hershiser should be the odds on favorites to buy the team if the Dodgers are up for sale.

Is it just me or are there others out there who feel that Albert Pujols has pretty much gotten a free pass from the media in the 10 years he's been in the league?

To me the guy comes off as kind of a jerk. He seems to be pretty arrogant and aloof in his dealings with the media. He portrays way too much indignation when a pitcher dares to establish some control of the inside part of the plate. Plus, I dont think he's even remotely clean when it comes to the issue of PEDs. He just hasnt been caught.

And yet it seems that the vast majority of the broadcast and print media have totally reserved a place for this guy on the "All-Sainthood" team. I dont get it.

What say ye, baseball fans?

Have you heard of the term "Innocent until proven guilty"? Just because you suspect something does not mean it is true. Give that arrogant bastiche the benefit of the doubt before you crucify him. I'm just sayin'.

He had told EVERYONE that he will not talk about new contract to ANYONE til the end of the season. That's why he got testy today. He will not negotiate even while he is on the DL with his fractured left forearm.

Albert is a very quiet family guy. He drives his kids to and from school. He's not a braggart and surprisingly very polite when people bump into him. I don't think playing hard and establishing a presence on the field makes you a jerk.

If anything I think Albert has put too much trust in has agent and the Cardinal organization. He should have gone free-agency several years ago instead of being convinced to sign a series of extensions.

Bo, I'm talking about the big leagues. I may be wrong, but last I knew there was only one major league player to pitch two consecutive no-hit games on two consecutive starts.

And you're still correct.

Gotta watch your phrasing with this bunch however. :D

Believe you're looking for Johnny Vander Meer. Image

FWIW, he and four other MLB pitchers share another accomplishment. :?:

Liljol does it again...! Johnny Vander Meer is absolutely correct. Pitching for the Cincinnati Reds in 1938, Vander Meer set a record that might possibly be tied someday, but probably will never be broken. To break Vander Meer's record some pitcher will have to pitch 3 consecutive no-hit games.

What major league player probably had the most flamboyant ritual in the warm up circle?

This answer will be very difficult, if not impossible to Google, because the answer is really a matter of opinion. However, I've got my answer, even though there is some subjectivity here.

Hells bells, CLOUDY. Here's a hint:

One of the other four, the first to accomplish the feat, went on to become known as one of MLB's most beloved announcers.

I'm at a loss on this one. However, I will put a compete guess up here. Please don't make fun of me, but is Dizzy Dean one of the four...?

WTG CLOUDY!! Image

Yes, Dizzy Dean was the first to accomplish this feat; Vander Meer was the second. The most recent of the other three has the chance this year to outdo the rest.

Liljol, I´m out of lucky guessing. I say give the other smart guys a chance to come up with the last two in 24 hours, and if no one can, tell us all who they are.

Great obscure question. :D

p.s. I´m still waiting for someone to venture a guess on my flamboyant on deck, warm up circle guy. :D
