"The Magnetic Monster" (1953) is a FrankC recommendation. I haven't seen the movie, but I read the plot, and it seems like a perfect one to see for those, who enjoy 1950's sci-fi horror flims.

Here's the trailer:

"Riders to the Stars" (1954) is the last of the five FrankC movie recommendations that I said that I wanted to expand on. I have never seen the movie, but after reading about it and watching the few minutes of the film I could find, the movie appears to be a drama that attempts to show what space travel will be like, without throwing in monsters bent on invading the Earth.

Here's the beginning of the movie:

Here's a little more footage of the film:

"The Rose Tattoo" (1955) staring Burt Lancaster and Anna Magnani is a movie drama based on the Tennessee Williams play of the same title. At the time, it was highly acclaimed, but I fear that it has now fallen into the "obscure movies" category. I strongly recommend this movie to those of you, who want to see one of the best dramas ever shown on the silver screen.

Here is one scene from the movie:

"The Steel Lady" (1953) isn't a great movie by today's standards, but back when my buddies and I were kids, for us it was...! It's not a World War II movie, but it does involve a tank in North Africa, not too long after the war was over. This is a fairly high recommendation for old farts, who like this type of action, black and white, B movies from the 1950's.

Here's some video from the flim:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IlHDoc_nWig

p.s. FrankC, if you haven't seen this movie, I think you should.

I probably saw it 50 times when I was a kid. A local Chicago TV station apparently got therights to it and ran it constantly. Actually I liked it vey much and wouldnot mind seeing it again in my old age. I always liked Rod Cameron.

"The Giant Claw" (1957) is a black and white, monster, B-movie that had my buddies and me on the edge of our seats at the movie theater, when we were 10 and 11 year olds. If you're old and want to relive a scary moment from your youth, watch it again. If your young and want a laugh, watch it for the first time.

Here's the movie's trailer:

"Rodan" (1956) is somewhat similar to the "Giant Claw", so I could not leave it out. Actually, "Rodan" took to the skies over Japan, before "The Giant Claw" lifted off. This is another movie that only a few old farts will care about, but if any of you young guys and gals would like to see a goofy movie that your father or grandfather once gobbled down popcorn, while fearing the world might end, take a look at it for giggles.

Here's the trailer:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i5jfCb6-2RA

p.s. "Rodan" was in color, and "The Giant Claw" was only in black and white.

p.p.s. Good Lord, what would have happened, if the two of them had teamed up...?

SPOTES, honest to goodness, I don't remember, if "The Giant Claw" was discussed on another thread.

I didn't find it listed on the "Obscure movies you like..." thread, and decided a movie this bad had to be mentioned here.

"The Giant Behemoth" (1959) is yet one more black & white B-movie from the 50's, that kept me riveted to my seat in the movie theater, when I was a kid. I can't give it a strong recommendation, because in retrospect it really wasn't a great movie. However, for those of you, who are 1950's sci-fi, monster movie nuts, THIS IS A MUST...!

"The Beast from 20,000 Fathoms" (1953) is very similar to "The Giant Behemoth", and needs to be mentioned also. Again, this movie is only recommended for those, who love the black & white, B-film sci-fi monster movies from the 1950's.

"Gorgo" (1961) is also similar to "The Giant Behemoth" and "The Beast from 20,000 Fathoms", so I feel compelled to mention it also. Yep, it's only a recommendation for those, who like sci-fi monster movies from many years ago. I should add that this is a heartwarming story of a mother's love for her child, that is taken from her, and her efforts to find her child to take it back to their home.

Here's the trailer:

lQ7OvRYYp.s. I think this one is in color.

"Dirty Rotten Scoundrels" (1988) isn't a great movie, but it's funnier than Hell and has some surprising twists to the plot. It stars Steve Martin and Michael Caine, and is worth seeing for a lot of laughs and an entertaining story.

"Dune" (1984) is a sci-fi movie based on Frank Herbert's novel of the same name. It was not well received at the box office, and the director, David Lynch, was so unhappy with the final cut that some of the releases of the film listed the director as "Alan Smithee". However, I liked it, and I think some of you might like it too. For you sci-fi buffs, who have never seen this movie, check it out and let me know what you think of it.

Here's the trailer:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XfKC1Poe6Gk

p.s. I believe that the movie has been remade.

The David Lynch version of Dune wasn't bad as long as you had read the books. If you hadn't, you had no clue what was going on.
The mini-series version which aired on the Sci Fi Channel was much easier to understand for the uninitiated.
I understand there is another version in the works scheduled for sometime around 2014.

You got me, I think...

How gullible can I be...? I hold you in such high regard, that I pretty much believe everything you say, so of course I went back to try to find my typo. When I couldn't find it, I thought SPOTES must have taken care of it for me. Then, idiot that I am, I suddenly realized that SPOTES can't correct my typos, he's making a funny.

Now that I am finished admitting what I fool I was, I think I get it. You didn't like the movie, and you consider it to be "DUNG"!

p.s. Help me here. I need you to put up some more of the "non-dung" movies you like on this thread. :D

"The Invaders" was a TV serial series that Lasted for two years (1967-1968). There were 43 episodes.

Every episode began:

"The Invaders, alien beings from a dying planet. Their destination: the Earth. Their purpose: to make it their world. David Vincent has seen them. For him, it began one lost night on a lonely country road, looking for a shortcut that he never found. It began with a closed deserted diner, and a man too long without sleep to continue his journey. It began with the landing of a craft from another galaxy. Now David Vincent knows that the Invaders are here, that they have taken human form. Somehow he must convince a disbelieving world that the nightmare has already begun."

Here's a link to listen to the above weekly introduction to the series:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uOLGrXOtuwQ

The series wouldn't hold up well by today's standards, but 45 years ago it was the best!

Here's a link to a few minutes of the program's first episode:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xiFHaKj_-HM

(Take a look at the blond haired camper's pinkie finger. He is an alien invader.)

Though purchasing the entire series on DVD will probably cost a few more bucks than you want to spend, I give "The Invaders" a strong recommendation, that might be worth it for sci-fi buffs.

"Mr. Winkle Goes to War" (1944] stars Edward G. Robinson, in a World War II film. The movie has a lot of humor, but it also goes into his personal relationship with his family. For you combat lovers, don't write this one off yet, because Mr. Winkle gets into combat, and becomes a war hero through his bravery and fast thinking. I recommend this movie to all of you, who enjoy black and white World War II movies, and especially to FrankC and Spotes, who have seen just about all of them, but may have missed "Mr. Winkle Goes to War".

Here is a link to what claims to be the original trailer. Sorry, you will have to suffer through a couple minutes of bullshit commercials before it begins. After you think the trailer is over, wait a few seconds, and there will be more of the movie.

http://www.tcm.com/mediaroom/video/2089 ... iler-.html

p.s. I think you can pick this movie up on DVD for a song on the Internet these days.

"Time Bandits" (1981) staring Sean Connery, John Cleese, Shelley Duvall, Ralph Richardson, Katherine Helmond, Ian Holm, Michael Palin, David Warner, and Craig Warnock is a movie I will recommend. It's a fun story of a young boy, who accidently joins a band of dwarves, as they jump from time-period to time-period looking for treasure to steal. Not a classic movie by any stretch of the imagination, but one you might enjoy watching with your kids or grandchildren. Go ahead, order a couple of pizzas, and see this movie with the kids. I think you will probably enjoy this adventure fantasy as much as they do.

(It is a British film, and in retrospect I think that that the kids won't get much of the British humor, but they will love the adventure. However, you will get the British humor, and love the adventure as well. See it.)

Here's a link to the movie's trailer:
