This is where you can tell everyone about the obscure movies you like, and think somebody besides you should watch at least one time before they die. They don't need to be extremely obscure, but just not given the attention or accolades that you think they deserve. They don't have to be feature films. The thread accepts TV programs, film shorts, movie theater serials, cartoons, claymation, and maybe some other things that you think are in keeping with the theme of this thread.

(ON PAGE 33 OF THIS THREAD IS A DIRECTORY TO FIND ALL OF THE MOVIES THAT HAVE BEEN RECOMMENDED OR MENTIONED ON THIS THREAD.)

I've got a long list, but I will start with one that I will bet none of you have never seen. You will love it, and laugh you ass off watching it. The first "Obscure Movie" is "Idiocracy" (2006). Buy it, rent it, watch it, it will be one of your favorite movies of all time.

Here are two links to "Idiocracy" (If the future this movies shows us is right, Buzztime trivia questions, should be a lot easier in the future)

Hell, you're killing me, man. I'm trying to build this movie up as one that everyone MUST see before they die, and you douse me with cold water comments like, "Seen it." and "Yup, pretty much."

Tell you what, drink a couple six packs, and watch it again. You'll love the movie this time.

p.s. "Idiocracy" wasn't a serious movie, but I think it actually had a serious message...

p.p.s. Just wait 'til I review "Spaced Invaders"... Nope, don't worry, just kidding, I wouldn't to that to you, or your dumb movies  :D

Okay, try this one...

It didn't receive a lot of press, was a Froggy film & was dubbed, but it was a well done version & a different take on the werewolf thing.

OK. I am not sure this is an Obsure movie, but I have met very few people that ever saw it. "The Night of The Hunter". It is a beautiful, sensitive movie involving a psychopathic killer(Robert Mitchum at his best or worst). It was directed in 1955 by Charles Laughton, the only movie he ever directed. It was a flop in the the theaters and the critics ravished it. He refused any offers to direct a movie again. It is one of my alltime favorite movies and it is now considered by many to be one of the great classics.

If people here tell me it is not obscure, I will be pleaseed.

It is most definitely NOT obscure.
You may now enjoy being pleased.

"The Big Bus" (1976) was a scream. I believe it may have been the 1st disaster film spoof.

It's about a gigantic nuclear powered bus on it's first cross country trip.

Post subject:  "Phantom of the Paradise"

Image

"Phantom of the Paradise" (1974) spoofed "Phantom of the Opera" and a lot more. I thought it was pretty damn funny. Initially, it was a box office failure and was panned by some critics, but it was nominated for an Academy Award and a Golden Globe, and has since acquired a significant cult following. You'll be pulling for Winslow Leach when you watch it. (My choice of the word "pulling" is a bit of humor, that only the initiated will get.)

Post subject:  "It! The Terror from Beyond Space"

Image

Don't think any or you young guys will get really excited about "It! The Terror from Beyond Space". (1958) Don't believe the poster, this is a black and white film. However, if you were a 12-year-old back in the 1950's, it would have scared the bejeesus out of you. After watching "Alien" (1979), it suddenly dawned on me that "Alien", was really a souped-up remake of this movie. "It! The Terror from Beyond Space" is easy to find these days, and very cheap. I say get the movie, and see if you agree with me, that "Alien" is basically a remake of it.

Should have been titled, "The Return of It! The Creature from Beyond Space"

Post subject:  "The Lost Skeleton of Cadavra"

Image

If you were or are a 1950's sci-fi/horror film buff, you MUST see "The Lost Skeleton of Cadavra". (2001) This is a movie made quite recently by a director, who wanted to recreate one of those black and white "B" movies from years gone by. It is a scream, not because the actors lampooned those old flicks, but because they did such a good job creating a movie just like we might have seen back in the 1950's.

Once again, if you were or are a 1950's sci-fi/horror film buff, you MUST see "The Lost Skeleton of Cadavra".

p.s. It's in black and white, just like it should be. :D

Doubt if you can find it anywhere. Asylum of Satan was produced by William Girdler from Louisville and also shot in Louisville. Horrible movie to say the least. Had it's premier at the Vogue in St Matthews.

Another one more easily found is the Groove Tube. Parts still funny today. It was Chevy Chase's first full length movie.

"Asylum of Satan", a horror film made in Louisville. This is a MUST get and see flick for me!

This is wat IMDb says about it:

"A young woman is brought to an asylum to receive special treatment from a mysterious doctor. Dr. Spector does more than just run the hospital -- he offers his patients as sacrifices to Satan." Heck, they give it 3 stars!

Here's a link to the trailer for "Äsylum of Satan":

I loved the Groove Tube. I remember seeing it at the drive in theater. 8-)

The inspiration that It, along with a couple of other 50s films, had on Alien was acknowledged by its screenwriter over thirty years ago, Cloudy.
Congratulations on your successful awakening from hypersleep...
Nice call on The Lost Skeleton of Cadavra. I was really looking forward to seeing it when it came out on video. It was surprisingly hard to get into it for the first 15-20 minutes or so. But when it finally turned the corner, it was a fantastic parodic homage to those B flicks of the late 50s/early 60s.
