I was waking up to feed Trip this morning and my cell phone was blowing up. I was wondering what all the HubBub as all about, seems as though the Ohio State recruiting class has taken a hit. Anyone know anything about the person in question? Too soon?

Please don't ban me (I didn't attack anyone, just asking a question) Is it fair game to post it to BT's Facebook Wall?

I heard about it, but did not realize that person from Ashland was involved until I read the ESPN article this morning. The guy just will not stay off the internet. Some people will never learn. Some interesting comments from the ESPN article. Will post a few below.

"Ohio State had no idea that this guy was a perv," Sal Anzalone said. "They were totally unaware. Let's make that very clear. That's not Ohio State.

"But Alex was creeped out by him. He thought something was wrong. Alex wasn't going to get hurt. Alex could knock him out. But the point is, this creep shouldn't be near recruits."

As mentioned in another thread, he not a member of this board, thus the rules on "attacking other members" doesn't really apply.

And even if they did, I'm not sure warning people about him constitutes an attack.

How the hell did he find time to make 149 tweets to former players, coaches, players, and recruits AND still play 10 hours of trivia a day? Did he multi-box with 10 boards and multi-tweet with 10 phones... impressive work!

It is starting to blow up on the internet today. Article below pretty much sums everything up. Not very good advertising for BW3.

Compliance Department warns Ohio State student-athletes about Kentucky sex offender

Charles Eric Waugh

Ohio State has learned that a convicted sex offender from Kentucky has made contact with Buckeyes student-athletes both in-person and through social media websites.

The Lantern obtained a Thursday email that was sent from OSU athletic director for compliance Doug Archie informing Buckeye student-athletes that the university is aware of photographs OSU players have taken with Charles Eric Waugh, 31, a man listed on Kentucky’s sex offender registry, Archie said in the email.

"The University has become aware that an individual who is listed on Kentucky's sex offender registry has recently been seen in pictures with our student-athletes," Archie said in the email, which was preceded by a warning text to student athletes.

Archie’s email to OSU student-athletes also contained an Internet link to a March 19, 2008, Daily Independent in Ashland, Ky., report about Waugh entering “guilty pleas to five counts of possession of matter portraying sexual performances by minors.”
Waugh also made contacts with OSU student-athletes and coaches on Twitter using the Twitter handle, @BdubsTriviaGuru.

OSU student-athletes in contact with Waugh on Twitter include Buckeyes football wide receiver Verlon Reed and former OSU offensive lineman and Cleveland Browns signee, J.B. Shugarts on May 3 and April 28, respectively.

From his Twitter account, @TP23_, freshman defensive back Tyvis Powell retweeted a message from Waugh and included a “thumbs-up” symbol on April 27: “A man on a mission to strive for excellence. And a man on a journey for a National Championship. Is what I see!”

Waugh was not made available after The Lantern requested comment Thursday evening. Charlene Waugh, Charles’ Waugh’s mother, told The Lantern she was not aware that the email had been sent to OSU student-athletes, but said that plans were in the works “to clear her son’s name on Tuesday.”
“We’re good Christian people. (Charles) is also a Christian boy,” Charlene Waugh said. “He’s been saved. He’s been baptized. He’s been on probation for four years and he hasn’t had no problems or anything. This situation right here’s the only thing we’ve had in our family.”
Archie’s email also included a mugshot of Charles Waugh, as well as links to informational sites about how to block Twitter and Facebook users.

“We strongly recommend that you take the steps (see links below) to block his access to your Twitter and Facebook accounts,” Archie said in the email. “In addition, we’ve enclosed a photograph and a link to a news article regarding this individual. As a reminder, the individuals who you associate with on social networking sites (i.e., Twitter, Facebook) can have negative implications on your reputation and the university. Please remember to choose your ‘social media friends’ carefully!”

Archie, along with OSU athletic director Gene Smith, did not immediately respond to The Lantern’s request to comment.

Oh, my gosh... I thought he would have learned.

Has anybody seen any of the pictures with Ohio State players? No, I'm not the least bit interested in seeing them. I just wondered why they caused such a stir.

Are those all of the pictures...? I'm not defending the person in question here, because I still don't know the whole story, but if those are all of the pictures, I don't see anything kinky there. They look like photos that any Ohio State athlete would pose for with any fan that wanted to have his picture taken with them. (If there is kinky stuff that I am unaware of, I will quickly change my position on this.)

I know I am probably alone here, but I feel if the person in question has learned the lesson from what got him in so much trouble, and has changed his ways, I have a problem with punishing or ostracizing him any more than he already has.

I am not what anyone would consider a good Christian, or perhaps not even a Christian at all. The only times I have gone to church for the last 50 years, were funerals and weddings that I could not avoid. However, I strongly believe in the concept of forgiveness, for those who have paid for their sins (or violations of law) and have changed their lives for the better. I say, "Forgive them." To continue to persecute them for things in the past that are no longer relevant to their lives today is not only cruel, unfair, and spiteful, but not in keeping with the teachings of Jesus as well.

I understand that there may be more facts here that I am not aware of or missed, which could change my mind, but if there are no more facts about this story, I will stand by my position.

p.s. Let's see how much trouble this post gets me into, but at least I can go to sleep tonight knowing that I have spoken my mind and heart.

Cloudy, we live in an era when good Christains don't practice good Christain values anymore. Tolerance and forgiveness and reason have migrated from the world of man to the realm of God. Still I think it wise to protect the community first in this day and age.

I'm not sure if I can explain my thoughts and feelings on the matter properly. Knowing him just from playing trivia with him for 7-8 years I can say sometimes you honestly never know who is sitting next to you sometimes. He was arrested on a Monday several years ago when we played at La Finca for a couple years. Did not show up for Showdown for a couple weeks, not surprisingly. As a group we decided "innocent until proven guilty" we had a lawyer in the group, not working on the case so we decided to take a wait and see approach. Well even after he pleaded guilty we listened to his side of the story and I guess it's one of those things in life. You know the person and you actually listen to how they are going to change and accept that they have screwed up but their different now. I just feel bad about it in the sense that other than being a naturally annoying, arrogant asshole I never felt he was an evil or even a bad person.

From what I can tell he was just ignorant and stupid. He is a fanatic for trivia and apparently OSU. Although up until last year he had never expressed any deep feelings for OSU that I can remember. It had been for The University of Kentucky, or at least that was my impression. I just sort of have mixed feelings on this, but if he does get in really serious legal or any other kind of trouble for this I just hope he doesn't end up hurt in any way. Having you name and face plastered everywhere like that for doing something that appears to be just one fanatic having too much communication seems a bit excessive. But also according to Kentucky state law he should not have had those accounts; maybe that is why he went by Trivia Guru. I always thought that was weird.

The power of the internet and specifically social media is awesomely weird and scary sometimes. Because you never think something you say or do on Twitter & Facebook has any real world consequences, personally I dislike both and don't see much point in them.

He needs to be in treatment, long term.

Cloudy,

I know you like to stand up for people. But, this guy was given his chance with parole and no jail time. He has violated his parole in several different ways. Being on here, Facebook, Twitter and who knows where else is a violation of his parole. Going to Columbus and hanging out with 17-18 year old kids is not something a 31 year old person convicted of handling kiddie porn should be doing. Note he was hugging everyone of those guys in the pictures posted. YUCK! Plus, I would believe something else happened that night. Either he was picking up their tab or worse buying them drinks.
It all adds up to the fact he has not learned his lesson. He is in serious trouble with parole violations. Let alone with hundreds of Ohio State fans that want to take a poke at him. I see him as a con artist. Someone people should stay far away from. He is always saying I did not do that or people are misunderstood about the facts. Does it seem strange that it is never his fault.
It is time for this guy to move on. His actions are giving trivia players a bad name. Given what has happened in the last week. Buzztime needs to deactivate his accounts. BW3 in Ironton needs to tell him thanks for the business but in your best interest it is best that you move on and not come in here anymore. I believe he has been given the chance to correct his ways on his own. Now he needs structured help. Hopefully he will not end up in jail. That will not help at all. I do not wish anything bad for the guy. But, I will not defend his actions. He needs to be off the streets and given help to go on with his life.

Well put Cards. As I was reading Cloudy's post I was thinking this same thing but would
never be able to put it down.

For my 2¢ I will say there was a teensy part of me that at one time thought he may just be innocent (for his previous actions). And then the louder logical obvious part of me smacked the teensy part upside the head! :o This guy is a sleezy creep and he needs some serious help! Why would a person deliberately disobey terms of a parole and conduct himself in that manner? He's either clueless or just can't control himself. I hope he gets the professional help he needs and gets off the streets!!! And I hope he has body guards if he plans on showing up at Triviapalooza!!

I don't think it's be real safe for him to show up at Bargo's or any other bar in Ohio. A person convicted of child crimes who may have cost Ohio State a recruit (although I think the recruit decommiting because of a picture with Eric is fishy) could easily be subject to harm. I'm an Ohio State fan and let me tell you some of them idiots want to smack someone around just because they wear Blue.

On the plus side, given Eric's athletic prowess... I do believe this was his only hope for making ESPN.

One last thing: Eric, I know you're probably reading this, get some help!

Twice my fairly long posts to this thread have disappeared. I give up, but God willing, I hope to back again tomorrow night to get myself in trouble again.

EGADS!!!

TOLLE & NICO texted me Saturday about this, but I just now went somewhere with my laptop.

First. I feel bad for his mom. I talked to her at the first WVBTO. I got the vibe that she was on the naive side & that he was he 'little boy'. She talked exclusively about his trivia exploits. He may be the only person in her life. I know the pain I put my mom through in my goofball life, but she always stuck by me.

Second. I had always defended the guy, at least triviawise, until recently. And as I mentioned in a post here a week or so ago. I thought that he had really gotten caught up in his social media persona, TriviaGuru. When I stayed with Steve & Donna a while back, Donna was telling me how Eric had kinda gone off the deepend thinking he was the greatest thing around. Thus, he started cheating to keep up that appearance.

Third. I'm sure there a lot of creeps that play BT. You never really know what's up with the person hitting buttons next to you. Now, there's not much worse than kiddie porn...I even think that some murders aren't as bad, but I'm an optimist. But like alcoholism, I'm thinking of it as a disease, that like alcoholism can't be cured, only controlled. So the boy is sick and no one is helping him to control it.

Fourth. Better OSU than WVU.

Fifth. That's what he should plead.

Finally. I'm sure we all have our own demons to fight. Jah knows I do. Just keep up the good fight & if anyone needs help to stay the course, feel free to PM me. I'm a real good listener between BT questions/

I was friends with him on facebook till about a month or so ago. He is actually the only person I have ever unfriended. We had all heard about the legal problems in the past, that said I was always civil to the guy. As Googie said earlier, a weird fetish with OSU popped up on his facebook page months ago with post after post about them. He posted often about these Buzztime college challenge tournaments that he with his buds were the Buzztime team of OSU, I had never heard of this as Buzztime promotion. One of the college "teams" he beat was at a bar I go to every now and then and believe me the playmakers at that joint are dust covered unless we drop by. The constant bragging about this crap and acting like the trivia god (when much better are out there, who's trivia credibility has never been questioned) led me to unfriend the guy. Just a sad situation as the two things he seems to love most (trivia and OSU) both consider him a pariah. I agree with Tolle the dude needs help.

I was told in private messages (here and on the old BT forums) that I had him all wrong. Some people defended him and probably still would to this day, I would get into arguments with them (surprise?) I would just end with, "would you trust him alone with your kids?" The arguments would stop almost immediately. People questioned his trivia prowess and were met with fake people sending us messages and posting on this board 'verifying' how good he really was at trivia and told we were wrong. While some real folks would defend him also, that just continues to puzzle me. Many around here didn't fall for the used car salesman act.

We all have made mistakes, but I am with FLY on this one some things can't/shouldn't be forgiven, ever. Some things are just too creepy and sick and I could never 'look the other way,' in this circumstance. I understand that I have more than likely been in the same room with a sicko before, but I couldn't travel half way across the country and voluntarily hang out in the same place with a known sicko. I honestly don't think there is help for this, it is too messed up IMHO.

As Tanaka said, "A big part of your life is shit (trivia)." Now he will be the most hated person in C-bus and fans will be nasty, more nasty than any of us trivia players and I don't feel sorry for him one bit.

Get Help...

That was a PM. The time has come: here are the exact words I wrote to Eric almost a year ago:

I have a life, Eric. I'm not sure that you do. It takes about 2,000 hours - a year's full-time employment - to earn four million P+ Points. My top box is at just under three million P+ Points after about a decade on the account. At about age thirty you have over 44 million points on your top account. It appears that Buzztime has been your career, eleven full-time years of your time by age thirty. We all make choices in life. I chose wife and family and career. I'm now AARP-eligible and early retired, happy with what I've accomplished with the years of my life. You chose Buzztime. I hope that two decades from now you remain happy with your choice. But the contrast produces an asymmetry: I don't care what you or others across Buzztime think, but this is your life. If the Buzztime community regards you as a cheater, a big part of your life's work is a piece of shit. Because you've dedicated so much to Buzztime, if Buzztime World considers you a failure you've got very little left.

***

Enjoy, Eric. You write, "The ball was in my court. And I just made the game winning three at the buzzer. Game Over." Fine.

Unless your first words are, "I admit that I was wrong, and I apologize," do not PM me or speak to me again. I'll voluntarily avoid your home site of BWW Ironton, and I'll avoid the upcoming Triviapalooza so that you can enjoy yourself without my being around. If I encounter you by chance at a Buzztime site, I'll not communicate first, and I expect the same courtesy.

If you PM me without apology, I'll report it to the Mod Team as harassment. I do not want you in my life, Eric. You are a liar and a cheat, a man I would not want as a friend.

Good bye.

Good bye.

Even though I disagree with TANAKA quite often on numbers and such. I just can't not like the guy, because the above PM was a classic and I liked it then, and still do to this day. I sure hope you don't regret calling him out Bill, he said he would prove you wrong didn't he?

That was a PM. The time has come: here are the exact words I wrote to Eric almost a year ago:

WB I recall that exchange about that odd string of lunchtime scores for Eric. I think you were spot on on calling him out, as another mostly daytime player it was easy to spot when held against his normal scores. On the amount of time he put in; holy S@#t, I earn about a million PP points a year and I think I play to much. Lewser I don't feel sorry for him. I was just saying it a sad situation with the two loves of you life being trivia and college football team, which are both by most measures pretty crappy loves.

I didn't mean for you to have that impression with my post, my bad. The last sentence is spot on.
