Well, last year I believe Atlanta went 0-16 in The Season, if memory serves.

Being the veritable BT wasteland that it is, I didn't pay much attention to that shocking result (there are football fans around here, you'd think that maybe they would luck into one win, especially as BT says it calculates an overall average score of all players, so big and small teams can compete with one another).

On 9/15 I arrived at my site and it was halftime and Atlanta was being demolished again, and I believe had the cumulative worst score of all 32 teams.

So, I thought let's see if I can help pull up the score. I signed on Muadib as my trusty second handle, and got two sixteen thousands or so for half the game. Atlanta had fallen further behind, and lost 13,974 to 8,229 to Denver. Whoosh, I thought it is pretty hard to pull up this teams score.

Semi-curious, I checked the BT site and found : •Team scores are calculated based on an average of the individual player scores from members of that team. Team scores are calculated on a quarterly basis, so players who join the game late will not negatively impact their teams

As it so happens, i was out again on 9/22 and talked the wife BIGDOG into playing a box, and I played 2. We put up three scores between 32 and 36 thousand, and lost 10,770 to 8,243 to San Diego (saw you up there LILJOL after the end of the first quarter).

So Atlanta's average only went up 14 points, from 8,229 to 8,243. With hardly anybody playing around here, it was a mystery to me how having 3 boxes averaging 34K or so didn't make a better impact that 2 boxes averaging 16K, even with "the quarterly scoring method", so I made a mental note to look at the HOF Monday.

Much to my surprise, I fould that the ATL has the second most number of players recording a score after three games of the season. From The Season Page:

Team # of Players
CHI … 319
ATL … 289
GB … 276
DAL … 250
PIT … 246
AZ … 240
BAL … 228
CLE … 213
MI … 181
NE … 172
DET … 160
BUF … 158
CIN … 156
DEN … 145
CAR … 129
TB … 119
HOU … 103
WAS … 94
NYG … 93
KC … 89
IND … 88
NO … 84
PHI … 83
SF … 77
MIA … 66
OAK … 64
STL … 53
NYJ … 51
SEA … 50
SD … 48
TEN … 43

Total … 4394

Average … 137.3

Reviewing ATL Team members ranked 201-289 reveals one is from Georgia.

While all the teams if you look have folks from all over, the ATL appears to have the greatest geographic distribution.

Hmmm. And the lowest scores distribution.

Hmmm.

Well, one theory could be that since the ATL is the first choice alphabetically (Arizona is listed as AZ), the ATL is getting "accidental members".

Lowest score distribution may mean that folks who accidentally chose ATL, may also be more likely to not finish the game.

So, I'm thinking the ATL is never going to win a game.

I am also curious if BT takes into effect people who quit playing.... they say they calc on a quarterly basis so players joing late don't hurt the team, but do they do it conversely and requiring people starting the game to continue into the second, third and fourth quarters, or do they just throw more zeros in the numerator for them while keeping them in the denominator ? It'd be nice if TomD or someone with knowledge could chime in.

I think your "first option" is the answer. IIRC, the few times I played the Season way back, I tended to just pick whatever the first team was. I eventually figured out how to switch to the Colts.

Yep, if you don't choose a team it defaults to Atlanta. Yet another reason why it's silly to count every player in the average. NTN/BT made a form of this very mistake one year for the QB1 playoffs, realized the foolishness of such and never did it again.

Too bad those decision makers (that actually listened to the trivia players rather than thinking they know what we want) are long gone :x

Just for kicks, I looked at San Diego. 48 Players recorded scores so far this year, Average is 15,358.

OK, pull top 48 from ATL. Average score is 25,797.

Jeez, why do I feel like my name is MD Jennings ?

Oh, well. CLE (1-2) has won one more game in The Season than it may win in the actual NFL season.

BTW, major mistake by BT moving The Season from Fridays to Saturdays. Dead Game Walking.

I haven't played it this year because of the schedule, but a simple fix would be to make the default behavior randomly assign you to a team, with a menu option to manually select your own team.
Login ->Select "The Season"->new screen has 2 choices:
Random Team Assignment (Picks a team for you and sends you to the game)
Choose My Own Team (This takes you to current "The Season" menu options)

My first post, lurked for a little while. I play NTN in Orlando, FL at Beef O'Brady's

Welcome to the forum.

Thanks Scar. It may be just a coincidence, but do you frequent a certain South of the Border related forum? Your avatar looks very familiar.

Nope.

I played in Orlando at a Bdubs about a year and a half ago with JESSE who snowbirded there from Kansas City, and GIRLIE who came over from Tampa among others.

Don't remember the name of the specific Bdubs, but it had a large outside patio overlooking a big pond. It was a nice place to play.

According to BT, the ATL lost to Carolina Saturday in week 4 8,602 to 8,069.

Carolina has had 158 players record a game, averaging 10,166 per game.

Pulling the top 158 ATL scores, the reultant average is 15,270.

Just got an e-mail from BT advertising $50 gift cards for each team's MVP during October. Wonder how many people will jump to a Jacksonville alignment to boost their odds

Even I'm a little tempted to start playing

Be sneaky and pick Tennessee instead.

Hipster Season players picked them back when they were the Houston Oilers :D

Ha. I went to the BWW in Hiram, GA.

Got a seat at the bar, told my wife BIGDOG this was a good place to play the Season as they never turn off trivia.

Halfway thru the game, outside of my hearing, (it was LOUD), KEGGER with his Notre Dame hat on, asked for the Texas Hold 'em channel to be switched to the Miami - ND game.

Of course, they turned off trivia.

In between fits of pique, I contemplated that is another reason not to have a football centric game on Saturday night, and wondered how many others lost their screens to college football games.

I logged off and went home.
