I've had Yeungling, but not the bock. How does it stand up to Shiner?

With the weather here in the high 40's I'll be doin up some ice cold [snow chilled] COORS BANQUET while I'm smoking up a couple dozen Pork Chops, then tonight I'll switch to Red Zinfandel, then if I'm still functioning a switch to COORS LIGHT for a smooth landing

Sounds like those would be good with this:

Ebony-hued, Smoke wafts out of the bottle and into your senses, borne on the wings of European traditions, wrapped in American innovation. Lager-brewed, like any true Baltic Porter, with smoked malts from Bamberg, Germany, the home of Rauchbiers, then mellowed by oak-aging. Black malt flavors mesh with notes of raisins, plums, figs and licorice with the subtle smoke on the side, for a complex and luxurious, yet silky smooth drinking experience. It's a sipper at Alc. 8.2% by VOL., but everyone knows you can't have Smoke without fire!

If you want a nice smokey brew, try this...

I wasn't sure I would like it but I found it very tasty, especially with BBQ.

To the uninitiated, smoked beer can be rather off-putting. Kind of like drinking a ham hock.Image But when paired with the right types of food, the flavors can be influenced and enhanced in many ways, making it a complex and dynamic experience.

Well, I like ham hocks. Ham Hocks is the only way to make great pea or bean soup. I will eat anything smoked including my shoes. Smoked beer is another story. I have never tried it. If it becomes available in my area, I will sample it.

If you're feeling adventurous, Frank, you should take an opportunity to visit the Bavarian Lodge in Lisle, IL... http://www.bavarian-lodge.com/Site/Home.html
They have excellent German fare and an absolutely world class beer list. And they usually have a smoked beer available (Surly's Smoke is on right now).

I was at an end of winter festival over the weekend and they served mulled beer with apples. it was ... different. I can honestly say I've never had beer that was deliberately warm before..nor with egg yolk and apples added

Found a perfect pub. great selection of 23 different beers on tap. Great location and atmosphere. Food very good.

http://www.villageidiotpub.ca/index.html

great name too.

I plan to drink my way through their taps this spring/summer

One caveat: They will never have Buzztime as they refuse to let even 1 TV set pollute their premises.

Well, my kegerator came up empty so I went out picked up a sixth barrel of Four Peaks Hop Knot IPA...

Image

And a half barrel of Strongbow Dry Cider...

Image

Four Peaks is a local brewery with a half a dozen standard brews & a couple of seasonals. Good stuff.

Tapped the Altbier last night... I have dubbed it CTRL+ALT+DRINK and it turned out very nicely. Nice and malty with enough of a "noble" hop profile to balance it out.

Image

Today, I brew Whiter Shade of Pale Ale, a highly hopped and lightly colored APA... Perhaps I'll listen to a little Procol Harem while brewing! Life is good. :)
