As I'm sure many here are aware, his last name was originally spelled 'Aurness'. From Wiki...
Arness was born James Aurness in Minneapolis, Minnesota. His parents were Rolf Cirkler Aurness (July 22, 1894 – July 1982), a businessman, and Ruth (née Duesler) Aurness (died September 1986), a journalist.
And of course his brother was none other than Peter Graves.

EDIT: For the record, my post above was posted before I read the link in MiniYoda's post which states much the same.

Now that means Burt Reynolds is the lone survivor of the "Gunsmoke" cast.

Shrek the Sheep, 16. This is the merino sheep that was found in the wilds of New Zealand, six years after having gotten separated from his flock and presumed dead.

Why do people care about celebrity deaths? Most of them are rich and could have cared less about you. What about the poor 7:00 to 4:00 working stiff with a wife and three kids? To me this is a thread of misplaced priorities.

And I regularly drink beer in bars and answer random trivia questions, instead of aiding the homeless

And I overlooked how often Buzztime incorporates questions on the recently deceased in the games.

That guy probably influenced my youth more than my parents.

I edited this to say what you meant.
You're welcome.
Let me think... a website dedicated to folks who have an appreciation for learning and retaining random information containing further information about people of note. I know... it's crazy. It'll never work.
You are correct that it is about priorities.
Garnering and exchanging data is definitely a priority for many on here.

SAD NEWS - Please join me in remembering YET ANOTHER great icon of the entertainment community. The Pillsbury Dough Boy died yesterday of a yeast infection and traumatic complications from repeated pokes to the belly. He was 71. Dough Boy is survived by his wife Play Dough, three children, John Dough, Jane Dough, and Dill Dough, plus they had one in the Oven. Services were held at 3:50 for about 20 minutes.
