I just read about the passing of longtime Tigers broadcaster Ernie Harwell. This man has been in my life longer than all of my actual friends. He had terminal cancer and was 92 so his passing wasn't a big surprise to anyone but it doesn't make it any easier. All the nights I'd spend laying in bed listening him doing Tiger games on the radio, and that voice and persona are unmistakable when you hear them. I started missing him when he announced last year about his terminal cancer and I definitely am now.

R.I.P. Mr. Harwell.

A nice tribute to Mr. Harwell on MLB Network:

Legendary artist Frank Frazetta, 82.

If you have not seen the documentary of his life, "Frazetta: Painting with Fire", I highly recommend it.
Rest well sir.

This one, like Ernie Harwell, hit me pretty hard. That's two people that I've had in my life since I was a young kid that I looked up to...gone in the same month. At least with Ernie, everyone kinda saw it coming but with Dio, hearing it yesterday was like getting hit out of nowhere with a ton of bricks. I knew he had the cancer but thought he was beating it. I guess not

He will be missed but left us decades worth of great music that will live on.

they tried to say that the "dad" of the TV show outlived all three kids. Yea, Dana and Gary are dead, but aren't both Todd and Conrad still alive?

Had L.A. at his feet in '04 when he won our first playoff game in 16 years. Of course he had us at his feet 'cause of that, on top of his fine year for us plus his considerable charm.

Next year he was gone, and he wasn't at all happy with the organization when he left, and minced no words about it. So it felt good to read that not only was he back with them in some capacity or other, but that on the Friday night before he died he'd been at the stadium with his son, and got a wild ovation from the crowd.

If the Trivial Pursuit craze/fad had not occurred, I really doubt that NTN would have had the same level of success in its early years

And TP had proper content. Only 1/6th entertainment. And it was a huge success. Imagine that.

NTN's success came when it followed that template, it started to tank when it all of a sudden went 50% entertainment to appease the ignorant who are not their target audience.

It's always been easy to see for those who understand, I just wish BT would pull it's head out of the sand long enough to see it as well.

The template with 1/6 entertainment was successful when they could attract new, younger players in the 25-40 age range using that format.

If BT can hook new players in that age range, then they have a long term, reliable end user (player).

I don't know if it is different in Texas but I can't currently get anyone under 40 to take a game board to play any of the current premium games. At the 5 closest sites to where I live, they will wait for the premium general knowledge games (Showdown/Speed and SIX) to finish before grabbing their game boards. Last Thursday during SIX, the younger people watching the game were making comments during the game that they thought it would interest only their mothers or Rain Man.

As strange as this will sound, one of the better ranking sites based on activity here in NTN Buzztime's (Just Plain Old) Site-Poor Backyard has lil if any play for any of the premium games. Image

actually that isn't strange at all. on any given Tuesday at least 40% (this week about 45%) of sites don't even register 1 single player for 1 question of Showdown..and that is the game with the best player numbers.

That is because they are halfwits that would be terrible in any game.
