It was fitting that American Top 40 debuts was one of the clues in Spotlight this week :)

But I've been dreading this day for awhile

I probably would've never been very interested in music if it wasn't for Casey Kasem. I'm mathematically inclined. My love for music was non-existent until I discovered at the age of 14 that there was a radio show that attached ranking numbers in front of songs. From that point on, my obsession began. Casey was obviously second to none, although I did get hooked on Rockin' America with Scott Shannon too.

Back then, Billboard was way too expensive for a 14 year old kid. And Radio & Records was impossible to get your hands on if you weren't in the industry. And obviously in this age, the data is available everywhere online now. To the point there's no need to listen to a 3 hour or 4 hour show by Ryan Seacrest. Technology is great, but the tradeoff is there's some 10 or 11 year old kid today that will never get into music like the way I did since there's no longer a need to listen to a show to obtain that data.

As that 14 year old kid I wrote in to AT40, and they sent me back an autographed picture of Casey that was scribed: "Rob, you're #1! Casey Kasem" It's still one of my favorite collectibles :)

Ponderous man. Just Ponderous. Loved Casey, grew up watching Scooby-Doo reruns and listen in backseat of the car to American Top 40 as a kid. Just sad, first Dick Clark and now Casey Kasem.
But here is a clip that always makes me laugh and a thought that perhaps he may have a few more death requests where he's at

As a lover of Stephen Sondheim musical, of which Elaine was an amazing interpreter, I'm very sad to see she's left us. Who else can sing "The Ladies Who Lunch" with such snark--or "Broadway Baby" with such bravo?

Yep, sad days. He & Ladimir "Ladmo" Kwiatkowski were classics. I definitely miss them both having grown up here in the Valley of the Sun Devil.

I saw that Wallace died a few days ago but didn't bother posting here. A bit too local of a celebrity perhaps? Even though the Wallace & Ladmo show was the longest running kids show ever at the time.
